SS Perculator with cold therapy condenser

Post by legalost »

Hello, everyone! I am new to the site and to the hobby. This was the first still that i build today. I used an old SS camping perculator as my pot. Used some 3/4 in copper from your local hardware store for a column and concesor. My concesor was a design that i saw on the discussion board from Gingerbread Man. Much THX. This design is seems much simpler and cheaper. I am thinking of also using it in my 20l pot now in production. I was able to supply the condensor with ice cold water from a cold therapy unit i had from an old injury. Distillation of water was a breeze. Just want to make sure i have all the kincks out before doing an actuall wash. Any feed back is greatly appricated. One concern of mine was in regards to column attachment. The female fitting may need to be ground for flush to the lid. The flour seal also worked perfectly. It just kind of bakes on and clean up was simple. the mixture of 1/2 flour and 1/4 cup of water in the food processor was perfext. im having trouble tring to find a copper scouring pad for my packing. ANy suggestions. Thx everyone. This a wonderful site.

the concept looks ok...from what i can see of the image . the pot is way small.. you wont get more that an few ounces if that if you make any cuts at all ..what you need copper scrubbers for ?

I had read that it was good to use copper scouring pads as your packing instead of glass marbles. im sure that i will not get much cuts if any. the pot will only hold 1liter of liquid. The only reason i used the coffee pot was because the hole was already made for me.

Dont take this the wrong way .. But if it was me I would for sure find me a larger pot ..thats just not going to do , maybe something along the lines of 4 or 5 gallon SS stock pot if you are wanting to stay small..you dont get alot of drinkable product from a wash in relation to the size of the wash .. so little bigger for sure would be needed .. now thats if youre are looking to make something drinkable .. if not drinkable then something project size you are fine where you are at .the copper scrubbies you are not going gain much if any by adding them in that column .. for one there is no way to control how much you send back down the column all you would get would be some drips back down . a reflux still is where you would really get the most effect from the packing. although some (myself) included will roll up a bit in the column on a pot still which is closer to what you have by the way to help clean up the product .. this is just my take on what i see so far that you have ..

Another vote for a larger pot.
