Re: Still ideas, NO BIG KEG!
Although I have never personally done it, it might time for turbo yeast. As far as boiler size goes AS BIG AS YOU CAN MANAGE! If you do go the four to six liter size, you might want to consider a slow cooker still. I had a beautiful SS one for years with a SS mixing bowl for the top. With a paste se...

Re: Rye bread whiskey
Very interesting! I appreciate your time and effort! I think I have seen the Malliard reaction at work in my still with AB! I use about 6lbs (2.5-3 kilos?) AB for a 15 gallon (50l) mash. It is yellow after fermenting but comes out of the still deep brown in color. I thought it was carmalazation goin...

Re: All Bran Recipe
Every box I find locally is 17.3 oz. (490 grams). I hope you can find the same. I crush it in the bag with a large upright soup can. If you are not careful you will pop the bag and end up possibly making a mess. I gotta keep the wife happy! It must not bother her too much, she brings me AB and sugar...

Re: All Bran Recipe
I have been making AB exclusively for over two years now (and have not regretted it)! It has been a labor of love and occasional drunkeness. After trying to make it every way possible I now do it the easiest way possible with excellent results almost every time. Lately I have using 6 boxes AB, 16 lb...

Pye, I agree with you 110%. Many think the planet is overpopulated anyway, why encourage people to live longer! Buccaneer thanks a bunch for your time and efforts     I was always wondering how they make Meyers Rum taste the way it does? Re: Wheat flour mash
Hopefully I can bring some new life to this thread. I am head over heels in love with wheat whisky (thin mash). I think that some of the unconverted startches carmalize in the boiler during distillation. It has absolutely great smelling spent mash! I know I can smell caramel in it. This process seem...

Good luck Mr. P! After trying several different versions of my recipie, the original is by far the best and smoothest. It is just so damn expensive. I going to try white wheat malt next. See you on the other thread.

I personally think the scrubbers are helping. Have you tried running the still without them? Did effect the ABV of the output?
I think you are probably getting some air cooled reflux from the copper?
Just curious

Re: Wheat Whiskey
I have been making nothing but wheat whiskey for a year now. Well kinda of wheat whiskey as I use All Bran cereal, wheat bran and germ and have learned alot! I am not yet ready to go the AG route. I love wheat whiskey, too! I have never been able to locate a commercially made one locally. I can get ...

I would highly recomend the the BH 2 piece reflux still head! 2" or 3" your chioce, the 3" is faster and worth the money if you can afford it. You can't go wrong with the set up. If you buy the still head alone (not a kit) I also suggest you buy the tubing kit. I skipped it thinking I...

Hey FCat, thanks for the thread! I feel much better about my CM now. I am thinking instead of embarking an expensive flute build I will just buy me a 3" CM! It will be alot cheaper and I can use all the extra time making more likker! I still got me a flute on the bucket list

My Harrangue asside, a second thought about CM stills. They can be finiky and persnicerdy to deal with, but they do keep stilltend'n exciting! :) The temps are never the same twice! Trust me I know, I wrote it all down. I never recycle exactly the same amount of feints each time and I am approximate...

After patiently reading everything, here is my 2c. CM stills work pretty darn good! They seem to totally dominate the market of commercially available hobby size stills for good reasons. I am very happy with mine  Having said that, I am totally guilty of Copper Envy and dream of owning a fl...

I got to second PP's idea, I have been thinking about the exact same thing for a long time! My propane and keg work great, but are not ideal. BTW, I saw this on a bumper sticker in Larose,LA "I might be a coon ass, but what kind of ASS are you?"

You are definately barking up the right tree! Just keep it up and you will figure it out. Running slow is a good thing. Great seperations can be had if can control the heat and be very patient.

Too much copper packing?
When I first started using my Brewhaus CM 2" column I was using a bunch of small pieces of 3/8" (10mm) tubing cut in short pieces inthe bottom of the column with SS scrubbies on top of that for my actual packing. I could not find any "copper" scrubbers that didn't have a magnetic...

Re: Word to the wise:Allow the yeast to settle
Do you have any copper in vapor flow of the distillate? The first time I ran an all SS still the the distillate had a definately "off" taste. This was easily fixed by the addition of a small amount of copper! Food for thought! BTW, most of the sulpher smell dissapated with time (age).

Hey Rad! :D I have been eyeing that wheat bran too. If you have a Co-Op close, use it. It is only an extra five minutes from TSC and always cheaper and higher quality. I am not knocking TSC! They are often my salvation! They are just not the best place to get feed. I have been thinking maybe 50/50 b...

For any one reading this before buying a unit, a longer condensor is not needed in my opinion. It has the cooling capacity, not the required surface area. I noticed a small amount of vapor escaping from the condensor when run stock. It also (vapor) stunk up my garage. So I kinda killed two...

All the boxes I buy are 17.3 oz size. I don't measure the pontential ABV. I have been thinking the wash is about 9%.
