Re: Booner's Casual All Corn
If you don't like weevils this gives great taste. Dump a 50# bag of cracked feed corn in a 20 gal pot and pour 15 gal boiling water on it. I use my boiler sitting on a table over the pot. This puts you at 180degF. Follow Booner's recipe besides that. Excellent flavor and no bug food leftovers. Use 1...

Picked up a little, put some fores in an empty water bottle for my neighbor's shop, swept and wiped. Was straining and diluting a gallon of corn and when I dumped in the water the abv rose... Went back to my neighbor, got my water, gave him the fores and am now rerunning the contaminated whiskey. Da...

Strip and spirit is what I do with a potstill also, but there are a few members that advocate one slow run through a potstill, must taste good to them. I've gotten addicted to my bubble caps, great flavor and high abv in 1 run.

Re: transferring high abv alcohol - electric pump?
I use a vacuum pump with about the same setup as snowman with PFA tubing for wine, beer, low wines or high abv. Pull a vacuum on the container being transferred to and tube the dip tube (from the source) to a high opening in the destination. The liquid never touches the pump and ferment gets partial...

Keep in mind you really only need a top and bottom sight glass for monitoring your run. The middle ones are just bling.

Copper bubble caps for me, though there's lots of ways to get there. SD's products are high quality and the one problem I had was handled quickly.

Re: My rum doesn't taste rum. Why?
For blending I keep a 1/4 tsp measuring spoon bent like a ladle at the spoon side. dip into the jars and dilute with water to whatever strength you seek and it's easy to test the potential blend's taste. +1 on the adding some dunder, add some un-diluted hearts to dunder to make an essence and blend ...

Hey Paname,
Good advice from Saltbush Bill. Remember too that a lot of the rum flavor is in the early tails., stop too early and the hearts by themselves can be pretty bland.

Slow is better if it's a slow ferment. I do a slow molasses fermentation at around 12% for heavy rum and whole raisins do a good job there. Oxygen and/or lipids is important in the initial growth phase.

If you can, ask an experienced chicken killer to break a ducks neck. They'll get a live, noisy, pissed off duck. Funny, in a sick way.

For high grav molasses (or probably white sugar) ferments, whole raisins slowly add nutrients. Didn't think of this at first. It works for rum.

Used to use raisins, sugar and fruit "nectar" for gawdawful wine in junior high. Hear raisins are popular in jail too, for the same reason.
