Re: Fermenting problem
Fermenting around 75 Fahrenheit. I just don't understand why one of the washes is taking off great am the other one hasn't. I did the same to both of them. I'm going home during lunch break to make a starter and see what happens I guess.

Making a starter
My wash is stuck and isn't fermenting. I pitched 30 grams of EC-1118 which is 6 packs. Since it is stalled I can make a starter to get it going again correct? And when I make my starter do I use the same amount of yeast or less that I used in the beginning?

Re: Air-Locks
My big thing was the smell. With a airtight fermenter with either a airlock or blow off tube on it cuts the smell down. I ferment a 35 gallon wash in a 55 gallon food grade barrel with a blow off tube and you can't smell a thing until I open the lid. As soon as I open it, that's all you smell and it...

I have read a couple places that after your wash/mash is done fermenting your are suppose to let it cool and clear? Do I do this by just not putting the lid back on and let the heat out?

When you said a airlock/bubbler I don't understand. I'm using 55 plastics food grade barrels that are air tight. I do have a hydrometer to test the sg and fg. I wasn't sure if there was fg that would tell u If the wash was done fermenting.
