Happy wife =happy life

I tend to pick my battles I dont like purple feature walls and I cant see the sense in painting somthing when the paints in perfect condition but I like stillin and brewing beer so I learn to live with purple and various other stupid colours and have learnt to look interested in somthing while im thinking about somthing else. I also got quick at painting.

That line pretty much sums it up... No use crying over skinned ink now... Use this incident as a catalyst to get to know each other better - you both might be pleasantly surprised... You may find that there is more "common ground" than you thought... Good luck...

My wife mows the lawns, trims the hedges, takes out the trash, weeds the garden, keeps the house clean and in order, cooks most of the meals (I like to cook too), has dinner ready when I get home, washes and vacuums the car, does my laundry, shines my shoes every night, paints if she wants something painted (decorating is her domain entirely), cleans up the kitchen after I have cooked, cleans up the bbq pit after I have cooked, runs all the errands, and does everything else you can think of. The other day she was on top of the house trimming tree limbs that had bag worms.

I go to work and I pay the bills. I have my hobbies that I do also. That's all that I do. I kid you not.

You guys must be doing something terribly wrong.

@Butch50

Your post raises several questions that I'm sure many of us have, considering that this is the year 2008... You've got to realize that there are people in this world that don't see your situation the same way you do...

Were you describing your wife, or your slave...??? Lincoln freed the slaves, even in Texas...

Does she wear the pants in the family and just have you fooled into thinking you do...??? If she had a couple more guys like you, willing to work and bring home their paychecks, she'd have it made...

Would you still be allowed to hold the same opinion if your wife was to read your previous post...??? With some women you'd be picking your ass up off the floor if they found out you talked about them like they hold the same ranking as a dog... Or does she rank lower than the dog too...???

Does she have to do all that work because you're too lazy, or too arrogant, to do any of it yourself...??? I doubt she does it simply because she loves being the subservient maid and groundskeeper you make her out to be...

Now, don't get me wrong, you can live your private life however you like and I won't care one way or the other... But when you start posting things in public forums folks are gonna have questions and opinions regarding those views... To be honest I'm probably being nice with my observations compared to how some folks might react... My remarks are merely suppositions and not indicative of my personal beliefs or feelings... I'm merely pointing out what others may think yet may not openly comment... There's a big old world out there and a lot of different views on women's rights...

Perhaps I'm the only one who read "Neanderthal mentality" into that post... It's not too late to hit the edit button... I know where the edit button is too... Hint...

Rad14701 you don't know alot about southern women do you? There's alot of us here in the south that have wives like that and no, they aren't slaves, (this is gonna come off harsh but not pointing fingers or downing anyone) they just aren't lazy or spoiled rotten little girls like alot of women these days are. They are intelligent (for the most part, even we got some dumbasses, male and female) self motivated women who value their husbands, children, homes and the extended families. I've known couples from all over the country and spent alot of time with them, not one has as good a wife as I do. There's alot to be appreciated about a low maintenance wife who likes to do some of the work around the house. Think what you want about Butch's mentality, but there's a lawyer around every tree here in the US, if she wanted something different she could have it, quick.

My wife is quite the liberated, educated and intelligent woman, hey she even has a tatoo (one). Our marriage works out great for both of us - she takes care of the home and I take care to have a home for her to take care of. She loves me more than I could ever begin to explain, and vice versa, and does everything she can to make me happy as a result of that love. On the other hand I do everything I can to protect and provide for her and I bring her flowers and little gifts at random unexpected times. I love her more than I could explain and try to show that to her all the time, romantic gestures are the best way I know how, and they do work. All I can say is that if your wife isn't taking care of you then you are probably doing something(s) wrong. Most women respond very positively to romance and attention - everyone should give it a try and be pleasantly surprised.

My wife is from West Texas and was raised by her Grandma who was from Arkansas - she has the best of the independent West Texas streak and the Arkansas take care of your home streak.

For all the world this quote sounds like it was written by an angry woman, and not by a man. That isn't an insult mind you, just an open observation. :D

My home life sounds exactly like Butch's, cept my wife works part time most days as well
rad14701, i often agree with your views and you seem like a nice guy, but you've read entirely too much into Butch's post about the split of his marital and home workload. A lot of girls actually like to do everything around the home. They take a lot of pride in being the one who looks after their man and their home and their kids. Not saying that's the only way a girl can live, just that there is still a lot of women out there who chose to be like that.

I don't hold my bourbon girl under the thumb or make her do all the work at home, she wants to. If she heard you say she was a subservient maid that gets treated lower than a dog she'd chuck you outa the house   With an earfull :(
I prefer to say the split is maintenance and construction. She loves maintenance and she comes to see me if there's any construction work to do around the place

Of course an unfair split comes with obligations too, as Butch and Rudi and trthskr4 are trying to say, if she comes out and say's she want's something done, you are obligated to do it, and she knows it. Even if it is painting the walls purple or going to see a damn musical with her...

Wouldn't swap my bourbon girl for a night with every other woman on earth for the rest of my days, she's my one and only, but i'm coddled like a two year old.

I am trthskr4's wife responding to previous posts. I homeschool 3 rowdy boys(ages-15, 12, 5), do all of the cleaning & alot of the maintance in our home, cook, take care of all of the boys needs, manage bills, yardwork including mowing, shopping(which I'm not crazy about), and anything else I see that needs to be done. Now why do I do it? My husband is gone on average of 8 -10 hours a day to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. The least I can do is help maintain it. Second, there is nothing better than when my husband comes home to be able to enjoy each others company. Life is so much better when everything is already done and we can just sit outside and enjoy the evening. I do this because I love to see my husband happy. In turn he makes sure I am happy. As I have always been taught, If a woman makes her husband king of his castle; he will make her his queen. This is not about being a slave; it's about a give and take relationship. And as he previously posted, us southern women just enjoy doing it. Down here in the south, we stay busy. Otherwise you're the town gossip or the one being gossiped about. Just fyi, I am not some dumb, barefoot, uneducated redneck. I keep up on current events and am very capable of teaching high school courses like algebra. When I did work, I was an accountant. I believe women should have equal rights. Being a housewife is mine and others choice. As matter of fact in many ways women have more rights when it comes to what takes place in your home. Who decides what's for dinner most nights? Who pays the bills and where does most of the money go? Who picks out your clothes? And if this isn't enough, look around your home. Does it look like a bachelor pad or a hunting lodge or does it look like something a woman did? Men, most of you don't have equal rights at home. Why? It keeps her happy. Have a lovely day!

I survived punk rock in the 80's without any tattoos. Never found them attractive. Actually turned down the prospect of dating gals before because they had tattoos. Sign me up for "no tats, please."

Of course, their just not my thing. I have friends who feel otherwise. I actually have a friend who was put on a postcard without his knowing it thanks to his mohawk and numerous skull tattoos.

You folks don't have to sell me on your points of view... What I posted was meant to be an eye-opener, not my own personal beliefs - as I clearly stated in my previous post... What I was pointing out, however, is that this forum is read by people from all around the world... I know couples that span the entire spectrum of beliefs, from one end to the other... It is because I know such a diverse mix of couples that I posted what I did... I know how many of these different couples would react, and other visitors of this forum might have similar reactions...

It's not a matter of right or wrong, it's a matter of whether the door should have been opened for debate... Maybe its the the forum moderator in me coming out because if someone posted such a statement in my forums I would also have requested an edit prior to deleting the post entirely... While I may not be a moderator in these forums it doesn't mean I don't see things in a diplomatic way... Note that I said "diplomatic", not "democratic", meaning that simply because a few people agree doesn't make it right...

There's no benefit in debating the issue further... Considering this is the "Off Topic" forum I guess anyone coming to what many of us consider to be the premier home distillation forum will have to take the good with the bad... My concerns regarding global community acceptance of possibly demeaning statements may or may not be unfounded... Not my forum, not my worry...

Just must be your day for passing Judgement on others, mate.

I've got two stars tattoed on my cheekbone that have been with me for thirty years.

Just part of me and although i did plenty of drugs back then, it had nothing to do with my personal choice of body art.

Heck, stars are nothing... Sure, they're on your face but that's alright with me... I even know a guy with horn implants and a split tongue... I'm just confused by people having streams of tears running down their cheeks... My son used to paint them on when he was in high school but I'm glad he hasn't had them permanently inked into his skin... My comment regarding the drugs was because I know someone who made that mistake and has to wear makeup because the doctors won't remove them using a laser due to the unprofessional manner in which they were done and due to his skin... He's living with his drug-induced mistake... Maybe if I had added that into my previous post you wouldn't have gotten on the judgment kick... No harm done...

I was doing construction work inside a Federal Penitentiary back in the early 80's. There was a prison work crew doing some maintenance nearby to us and occasionally I would visit with the guard that was overseeing their work as there was some interface between what they were doing and what we were dong.

One day the guard says to come over where his prison crew was working as he had something to show me. Of course I assumed it was related to the work. I walked over there and he said "show him Charlie". So Charlie drops his pants and pulls his dick out and points it at me. He had an eyeball tatooed on the end of his dick. He was proud as a peacock about histatooed dick.

Being a bit non-plussed by this unexpected turn of events all I could think of to say was "That must have hurt". Charlie said it "hurt enough to make a bulldog bust his chain". Totally weird. But kind of semi-normal for inside the Pen. Lot's of weird stuff went on in there.

One of the old time guards pointed out to me the higher than normal proportion of left handers among the prison population, and that the tatoo rate was nearly 100% - a man without a tatoo in there was pretty rare. He told me that when you are on the outside always watch out for left handed men with tatoos, and for some reason he said that a redheaded left handed tatooed man was guaranteed trouble. Who knows, may be some truth to it, stranger things are true. :D

Ever sit on the porch late in the evening and just talk? This is kind of like that - subject doesn't stay the same and the conversation sort of rambles all over the place, nothing very important or dramatic, just ramble talking. Very pleasant, I always liked doing that. Just rocking and talking the night away.

You and i think of the net in the same way Butch.
My trouble is i tend to do that in all the threads, leading to pissed of mods and frustrated people trying to get answers to questions i've wandered away from.

Funny how a conversation round a fire, in a pub or on a porch will twist and turn and end up back where it started. Every time the end is still there, but you've raised a few more thoughts for the next conversation...either then, or with anticipation, next time y'all meet  8)

I guess it is not a universal thing - not everyone has lived that experience? When I was a kid we used to hang out on the porch with the grownups and listen to them talk, we rarely chimed in, just listened and learned and watched the fireflys. If we were real quiet and they kind of forgot we were there we could hear some really interesting things. :) Later we would get shooed off to bed and we would listen to the conversation coming in through the open windows, but it was more muted and hard to make out what was said. Lots of quiet laughter though, lots of that. Crickets could drown it out some nights. Next thing it would be morning.

I guess it is a dying art even here in the South - not many folks can peel themselves away from the evil eye in their living room, and they just sit there staring at it, not even talking to each other. I also guess that in a lot of parts they never did it at all and so they just don't know how, or how much fun it is.

I know the scene, but it was hiding under the kitchen table where they were talking or round the corners of the room for us as kids. As you say, the trick was to stay quiet and still and unnoticed...

Only way to learn the family language/bastardpiglatin was to sit and listen till you were old enough to figure it out for yourself, cause none of the teenagers dared teach you :|

Jeez, the stuff you heard when you were old enough to understand that!

Seems like nothin but gossip now, but it was huge then...

Just got this mental image of a big Enid Blyton type character in bear skins who lives in the woods and is a little bit gay....

edit. just realised this can be read as if i was talking of Dunderhead, i wasn't. The misspelling of 'rustle' gave me a mental image of a fictional character called 'Russel of the animals'

I dislike tattoo's in general. My wife likes them. She doesn't have any and knows well that i don't like them. But the truth is whether married or not, people still have the right to make their own choices and mistakes. I feel i would be a worse husband controlling her than she would be a wife for getting a tattoo. My wife doesn't like drinking, pickup trucks, or fixing old junk. I do and i expect her to respect that. I would be a hypocrite to tell her not to live her life to the fullest.
