Did you see Discovery Channel's Vodka experiment on Mythbusters? The myth is taking the worst, god-awful vodka and running it through multiple passes of the activated charcoal and it will eventually be undistinguishable from the high end, top shelf vodka.
The myth passed their scrutiny passing seven (7) times before "perfection". I have since been passing all my spirits (ten) 10x and everyone is impressed. I even tried the Mythbusters test (at 10x) and no one could tell the difference of my 8-10th grocery store vodka pass from Grey Goose.
How much better are our runs by doing this a few more times.
Question though, there has to be a faster method than the one I'm using. Ideas?

quickest way? make good stuff to begin with, make wash below 10% good ferments distill slow and make good cuts . then no "filtering" necessary

Re: TV Discovery Channel Mythbuster's Vodka
Knowing how to properly ferment, properly run your still, and making proper cuts, pretty much eliminates the need for carbon filtering... Filtering 10X sounds more like a case of OCD... I'm a firm believer than ANYTHING that has to be repeated that many times is bordering on compulsion... Don't take those Myth Buster guys so serious... They're just trying to keep you entertained so they can keep their contract with the Discovery Channel... If it wasn't for the fact that I find Kari to be easy on the eyes I'd never bother watching that show...

Re: TV Discovery Channel Mythbuster's Vodka
If I recall that episode correctly, they also had a genuine professional expert vodka taster who was able to accurately distinguish between the final products in a blinded test, so the carbon filtering only works up to a point. You may well be able to improve shit vodka with carbon filtering, but it is still shit vodka.
Like others have said, Mythbusters is good fun and they do some interesting and informative stuff, but they rarely do genuine, properly controlled scientific experiments.
And +1 for Kari.
