Brand new Greenhand

Post by johnny »

Hi all, I am from northern side of Adelaide in Ozzie and have never tried distilling before but it has been in my mind for many years, so I have taken the plunge and am waiting for my ss pot/reflux combo unit to arrive, mean while I am collecting other bit and pieces, today I brought 6 new plastic buckets for $24 and some odds and sods to make my own airlocks.

I am still going in circles with all the information thats available and hopefully in the end with be heading in the right direction, I have joined a few related forums but have placed my first introduction here because the info here is easier to find and better suit my needs, because I am a beginner. (awesome forum)

My main aim is to produce neutral spirit and then turn it into something nice to get sloshed with, I found it a little daunting when a lot of info is from other countries and I am not familiar with their mash ingrediants, so I hope to find a good mash recipe with ready available Australian products, I would prefer a home made recipe without using turbo mixs or other commercial mixs. If any locals are already doing this, I would appreciate a good starting recipe :)

I also need some tips on how to make my non drinking wife more enthusiastic about my new hobby, It seems letting her moniter the tempreture on the fermenting drums in her laundry is not enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers Johnny

There are several good sugar wash recipes in the Tried and True section that are good for neutrals/vodka. I would recomend the Birdwatchers.
It is the very things that we think we know, that keep us from learning what we should know.
Valved Reflux, 3"x54" Bok 'mini', 2 liebig based pots and the 'Blockhead' 60K btu propane heat
