Anyone else noticed the jump in sugar prices lately?

Little or nothing to do with distillation.

Anyone else noticed the jump in sugar prices lately?

Post by dixiedrifter »

Local wally world is up over $3 per 5lb sack once taxes are factored in.

Even the local bulk clubs have gone up.

Sucks really... now that I got a good running LM rig, damn sugar is up!

you mean this jump?

it's a 28 year high - and no sign of it going to get better anytime soon.

I heard a news blurb a few weeks ago on NPR (world markets report) about a forthcoming increase.

Well, you will insist on living in a temperate climate.

You might have a favourable legal situation, but we got the sugar.

If you can convince the Australian government to adopt NZ's home stilling laws, I will personally guarantee you a free lifetime supply of all the sugar you will ever need for your personal booze production.

Can't do fairer than that.

Good luck.

Awesome, I'm off to write a letter. Oh, define "personal booze production"? Incidentally, that mysterious 'personal' is what is clouding our laws...

Last time I bought sugar is was $0.539 per pound, up from $0.449 per pound for the previous purchase... That's more than a small jump... Just waiting for someone, like the oil moguls, to falsely blame it on Ethanol production...

Biofuel (ethanol production) hasn’t helped – especially in the states but the big kickers this year seems to be disappointing crop yields in India etc. due to weak monsoon rains. India was importing instead of exporting this year. People were complaining about high sugar prices and hording in the middle east during Ramadan (Seemed like people were hording to jack up the price).

Short answer is if you see anything close to a deal - grab it. the best I could find around here was 40 Lb. for $20.00.
