Lazy way to clean still

Post by Daveweldz »

Of course when I built my Frankenstin still I negeleted to provide easy access to clean out the condensor and reflux column. I do have however a food grade SS boiler pump that I could circulate some manner of solution thru the whole set up for as long as needed. Saw Rad suggested Oxyclean. A little bleach or vinegar solution followed by baking soda solution and then rinse? Any ideas or comments.

Thanks

A light bleach solution should work just fine. If you wanted to remove all the residue, which is really not going to hurt anything, You could get some (one step) sanitizer. This is a powdered sanitizer that will strip everything out of there back to the metal. I used it to initially clean out my keg that had sat in my shop after a kegger for a couple years. I put the approiate amount of sanitizer and filled the keg with all hot water and the next day it shined like new on the inside.

I didnt realize the name was taken. I am a bit embarrassed to show this i guess i should call it the "Junk yard war" still instead. This is the refined version of my first attempt before I found this site. (See "Accidental distiller' in this section) I love being able to build things from stuff I have laying around in the shop and this is the result. I am capable of pretty good work but I am still in the "slap it together and see what works" phase of this hobby. Not pictured is the lastest modfication which is a condenser coil around the top of the reflux.

I almost did. But the in-line concept stole my attention from your design.
