Hey guys, I just started my first wash and I left about 3 inches at the top of the bucket. Will the wash foam up at all or will it be alright how it is? Thanks.

22L distilled water
15lbs Sugar
1 pack of yeast
Nutrients
Amyloglucosidase Enzyme


I had a SG of 1.098 and it is being kept at a constant 25*Celsius. So far I have constant bubbling through the airlock and I haven't seen any foam yet. Also another question while I'm at it. Where is the best and cheapest place to buy distillers yeast?

no,, what causes foam is surfice tension, oils,,starches,proteens,etc also grain halls, skins etc.can produce a "cap"

With 15 pounds of sugar in a 22 liter wash the SG would be more like 1.118 with a potential 18.2% ABV... Or did you actually use 22 liters of water along with the sugar to make a wash of ~26 liters and a potential of 15.1% ABV...??? Either way, you're pushing a bit high on ABV for a clean wash that free of off smells and/or flavors...

Can you define "nutrients" as far as what you used...???

Also, sugar washes don't require enzymes because there are no starches that need to be converted to sugars...

I used 22L of water and 15lbs of sugar and have a total volume of 26L. The nutrients I used are the what came in the yeast pack and it doesn't specify. I ordered http://www.milehidistilling.com/Vodka_P ... /83324.htm when I was less educated in distilling so I had it lying around and decided to give it a try. What yeast do you use?

Ok... Went and checked the information on the website and posted the extended information here for anyone else not familiar with this yeast... I see that the enzymes are there just in case you were to add grain to a turbo wash... I also see that they recommend clearing with Super-Kleer K.C.™ for best results... Cha-Ching... :twisted:

INGREDIENTS: High Alcohol Distiller's Yeast, Yeast Nutrients, Amyloglucosidase Enzyme.
I haven't used anything other than bakers yeast for years and get clean ferments up to ~14% ABV... See the recipes in my signature... Last time I used anything else was in the 70's when I used up the last of my wine yeast...

Once this yeast is gone, simplify your life by using better yeast... Good luck...

My experience has been that different yeasts can also foam different amounts, using the same recipe.
