BIG Size Copper Where To Find?

Post by gpwgyrene »

I am building a VALVED still, and am having a VERY difficult time finding some nipples and a 3 inch diameter piece of 6 to 8 inch copper for the condenser. Any idea of who sells this-without me going broke?

Semper FI!

6 to 8 inch copper...!!! WTF are you building...???

I truly wish you'd let us convince you to not build an offset head valved reflux (VR) column...

We might have some 6" left over in our shop, I'll look (I'm thinking we might have 5 feet or so). I could sell it to you for wholesale per foot + shipping. As for 8" good luck, we generally switch to Ductile pipe at this point for potable water. Not even sure if they even make it other than special order..It might be cheaper to have a tin bender roll some copper and solder up the seam, now you can make any diameter you want using a lot less copper.
thinking inside the box is for squares....

did he mean 6-8 in.diameter copper or did he want 6-8inches in length?
he is talking about 3in column then wants 6-8in for the condenser, so maybe he lacking 6-8inches?

I reckon he means 3" diameter x 6-8" long. What it's for, I wait with bated breath. Please tell us gpwgyrene.

Here's maybe a dumb question...

What about just using some stainless steel pipe from a plumbing store and having it heavily copper plated?

Stainless Steel doesn't need to be copper plated for use in a still... I think it was confusion over the topic title, "BIG Size Copper Where To Find?", that was the issue... I don't think anyone is looking for 6" or 8" diameter copper, which is kinda how it reads... If gpwgyrene really wants to make a VR offset head reflux still he can make the entire column out of 3" copper... There is no need for the condenser section to be made of larger diameter copper than the column itself...

Perhaps it would help if gpwgyrene came back and explained what s/he means. :|
