Too slow fermentation
Fermentation with canesugar and turboyeast (25 liters wash) normally
starts with a lot of gas coming out the waterlock and stops in 7 days but this
time it seems to ferment much slower. after 8 days the solution is still very
sweet. I tried shaking the tank again but still fermentation goes very slow.
Can I boost it up some way?

Hi,
The wash is at roomtemperature (near 21 celsius). The yeast is the fourth
of a 5-pack (alcotec-48) while the first three were succesfull under the same
conditions (near 18% in 7 days).

What is the exact recipe, with volumes, that you are using...??? Almost sounds like you're running out of nutrients, which can happen when you split a turbo yeast sachet too far... I'm leaning towards the yeast becoming nutrient starved before they can finish the ferment if you aren't pushing for too high of a %ABV and killing off the yeast...

Re: Too slow fermentation
After diluting the wash with one liter of water
fermenting has speeded up.
I also added some vitamin B.
I'll try less sugar next time.

You still aren't allowing us to help resolve the original problem if you don't provide the recipe proportions... Wouldn't you rather get the proper advice "before" you make the same mistake again...??? There may be more issues with your recipe than just the amount of water used... Take advantage of the help that's being offered... Better now than after the ferment is failing...

The 'recepy' is just what is on the package (alcotec-48):
'ferments 8 kg in 25 liters in 5 days at 20-25 cesius'.
'ferments 8 kg in 25 liters in 5 days at 20-25 cesius'.

Re: Too slow fermentation
your pushing close to 19% alcohol,, not good for a fast ferment,, yeast does good up to about 8-10% then slows down to a crawl.
high ABV wash will ferment with all things "right" they just take a long time, say your trying for a 20% wash it will go something
like this---- first 5% will take 2 days secant 5% will take 4 days third 5% will take 7 days the forth mite take two weeks.
the yeast does not like working in there own "POOPOO" so they slow down , so you can do 2-3 lower 8-10 % washes in the same
time it took to do one high ABV. you can run lower %"turbo" wash but you can run into problems later when distilling.

Re: Too slow fermentation
Scrap the turbo greed concept and head on over to the Tried and True section for better recipes... You'll be glad you did... With just a little more effort, or perhaps less effort in the long run, and less expense, you can end up with washes that ferment to completion in about the same amount of time as a turbo wash... Sure, the yield won't be as high, but due to the lack of extra work, and better final spirits, you're still further ahead... This isn't a lazy mans hobby - you get out of it what you put into it...

Re: Too slow fermentation
I can recomend the WPOSW receipe in the tried and true if you are after a vodka. I use this but use 8kg sugar in 55lt of water so I would think you have way to much sugar.
