Question
I was wondering, I wanted to try my hand at my first batch, unfortunatly, this time of year there's no fresh corn on the cob that I can use. I was wondering if I goto the local supermarket and purchase corn on the cob that way, can I still use that. The recipie I was giong to use, involves letting the corn sprout for 10 days, will this happen if I strip if off the cob?
Lost and confused,
wanted to try and do a batch on my birthday which is may 20th, so I'm trying to get as much info as possible..
thanks
Andy

Re: Question
fresh corn is not going to sprout...you need dried hole corn as used in stock feed.

Re: Question
ok, I wasn't sure because I thought feed corn wasn't good to use. Some people I have seen, use frozen corn, so how does that work? Just learning here, so please forgive my stupidness.

Re: Question
if it has been processed it will not sprout,no way no how. you need something like seeds, pop corn mite work ,never tried.
you can make UJSSM (see tried and true recipes) with corn meal. at this time we know not what your after, also what kind
of still you have, these will determine what to use and what you can make. there's a bunch of recipes on tried and true(and recipe -development),
some for flavor and some not, all ingredients can be bought at store.

Re: Question
Dried whole corn can be sprouted, but don't sprout corn "seed" you buy (at least in the US) cause most are treated with chemicals.

Re: Question
I don't like saying this as you appear so enthuisiastic, but this is not a hobby/craft for speed or the impatient. Three weeks is not very long.sed8ted wrote: ... wanted to try and do a batch on my birthday which is may 20th, so I'm trying to get as much info as possible...

Seems like you are talking about doing a grain mash. That's very cavalier of you if you are as in-experienced as your posts indicate.

What type of still do you have? What is your recipe? What do you want to make? What experience do you have? I'd be interested to see the recipe you mention using frozen corn.
Have a nice birthday anyway.

Re: Question
Doing a all grain corn mash right out of the shoot isn't impossible but without someone right there to hold your hand I wouldn't suggest trying it.
Just like everyone else said slow down and get a good feel for what your doing. Do a lot of reading and start with something you can't mess up like the gerber or bran recipe.

Re: Question
first you gotta figure out what you want. then how to do it, then what you will need to do it with.
when things come together then then you will know (and maybe we will?)
just like making a pie.
you have to decide what kind
you need a recipe (some one on here most likely can furnish)( better to start with something simple)
then gather ingredients (we cant do that for you)
and you need a oven (in this case a still) (we cant do that either. we can just recommend one)
then you need practice as most likely the first one will be a flop. (and no we cant practice for you)
I seen a bunch come on here and thank "cheep booze" I can party (do to nature of this activity drunken partying is not advisable) only to fiend out different. (not cheep unless cost is spread out over several years)(if you want something "cheep" go to the liquor store and buy vodka, flavor the way you want)(if your not old enough to buy then you should not be on here)
(reading helps BUT practice makes perfect)
