Hello and needs Help!

Hello All,
I have been looking into this hobby for a while, lurking and reading a few good books. My favorite is Moonshine by Matthew B. Rowley I have learn alot and now I would like to try my hand at runs but I have came to a problem Iam looking over the list of supply's needed to build a still and I have priced it all out Iam looking at $275 holy wah I could buy one for less than that! I have been looking at some sites that have them made and I am not sure on where to buy from anyone have good experiences or bad and what sites are they. Anything I do I would like it to have a thumper in the line so I can easily add flavor's and such.

No, you'll be buying less for $275 readymade. Do-it-yourself reading, scroungin and building and the $275 will get you the state-of-art. Go Boka, VM, or Pot...take your time and find the cuttin edge, then do it.

also see if you cant do some scrounging, scrap yards,recycling centers,git to know some one in building trades .

Welcome to the boards BWC...

Build a Bokakob Dual Slant Plate, Rads Apartment Still is a great example of a still that is both efficient and inexpensive,
he gets some great results from it as well, anyway, he'll be along shortly to welcome you...

Scrounge, look for people replacing heating/air conditioning systems, scrapyards, yard/boot(trunk)/garage sales and your imagination...

Remember the golden rule:

COPPER, STAINLESS STEEL or GLASS... Copper being the easiest to work with...
You should be able to put a stove-top still together that is both safe and cheap to assemble...

Pot still:
1. 3ft by 3ft sq 20-ounce sheet of copper.
2. Copper rivets.
3. Brazing materials.
4. 3/4-inch-to-1/2inch reducing coupler copper
5. 1-inch-to-1/2inch (ID) reducing coupler copper
6 10-inch length of copper pipe, 1-inch diameter.
7. 10-inch length of copper pipe, 1/2-inch diameter
8. 1/2-inch-to-3/8-inch internal diameter (Id) copper pipe reducing coupler
9. 6-inch length of 3/8-inch outer diameter (OD)
10. Step drill bit.

Then the flake stand
1. 32 FT 3/8-inch copper tubing
2. 6gal bucket
3. 2 8ft lengths of 5/8-inch (ID) garden hose
4. 5/8-inch female hose coupling with matching hose clamp
5. 15/16-inch male thread faucet adapter
6. 2 pvc male adapters, 3/4 inch

Honestly. There arent many deals on buyin a still. Most of them are built with inferior materials, methods. There is a reason they are cheap. You can build one for $275. Do you think the one your buyin is built with the same materials? No. The guy selling it wants to put some money in his pocket. So he cuts corners. Simply put. Build one, you will be much happier.

You can definitely be up and running for less than $275... My small scale still cost me a lot less and I can produce some pretty good neutral spirits as well as flavored spirits with it... I'll go out on a limb and say it cost me less than $100, perhaps $50, partly because the copper pipe and stock pot boiler were free... Granted, the volumes are relatively low, but more than I drink all by myself... You just need to think outside the box, and you can't factor the purchase of acquired hand tools into the equation because I generally buy tools to last a lifetime, even if not top of the line...

Don't be too eager to lay out cash just to be up and running in a hurry, which happens all too often... Do your research and take your time... You'll know when you're ready and in which direction you need to go... I used to have a buddy who lived like he had more money than brains but, unfortunately, he had little of either... He quite often spent his paycheck eight different ways before having it in hand which led him to be constantly borrowing money from many different people... But I digress...

Looks like your cut sheet is for a 100% copper outfit.

And ya don't need to go by that cut sheet.

$275 store bought will get you a lil peepee outfit that can't run but a few quarts at a time. Hard to make good cuts and you'll always be stilling just to keep up with your personal demand. Never mind if you want to gift some to your Pap.

Slow down just a bit and research a little more. IMO.

The still I have material listed for has a 7gal captivity and the pot is copper . I dont understand go to the scrap yard that dont seam to sanitary!

I'm just another newbie around here, and have yet to build my first still as well. I am still in the process of reading, re-reading, and in some cases re-re-reading! I completely understand the desire to buy a pre manufactured still and having everything needed to run your first batch. But the more I read, the more I am starting to firmly believe that everyone should build their first still. I'm looking at it as a right of passage into the hobby, and can appreciate the fact that since I will have designed and assembled it from scratch, I will know my still inside out; something that can't be said for a purchased still.

Look at it this way. Every Jedi has to build his first lightsaber.

If you buy a still from turbo stomped I hope you have a big stick to bite down on. These scam artists have several site and go by several different names, they also sell on Ebay,( they get banned every now and then and reappear under a different name).

If your going to buy a still run it by the forum first. The guys here will give you a dead honest opinion.

Thats what I kinda figured that out because when called to haggle a price I got him down to 139 I told him I d talk it over with the wife and he said no no that's a wright now price I .

Rightnow price is for the gullible. They won't allow you time for research because you will find out it's a ripoff.

A doorknocker tried it with phone/internet bundle. I said I will do some research and then followup online, but he said this special offer can only be got right now at the door. I did the research and find much better bargains online. He was lookin for suckers.

There are exceptions and you will know them after you done some research.

Welcome BWC, If you buy anything from those guys here is what I would suggest. Just go out in the brush and find yourself a nice stout stick about 16 to 20 inches long and 1.5 to 2 inches in diameter and slap yourself in the nuts real hard, if while you are out doing this you fall down and lose your wallet the total result will be very similar.
