Is there an oaking FAQ I can't find? I have questions..

Post by SuburbanStiller »

How much oak do I use per quart jar?
I split up one of my Oak Stix into staves, and put two pieces each 1" x 3/8" x 4" into a quart jar. How's this?

When charring, how much do I char it?
I hit one of my staves with a propane torch, and when I broke the stave in two, I could see that the char only went about 1/16" into the wood. good?

I've had a raw toasted stave and a charred stave on some All Bran hooch, and both are picking up a pretty nice color after only 10 days. (These are the Oak Stix from Brewhaus if you're wondering)

I'd say you're already in the correct forum... You just need to pick and choose your way through the topics to get the information that works for "you"... Opinions are many and varied... Also check out the information on the Parent Site regarding Aging...
