RAM memory question/ help

Post by rubber duck »

The ram memory on my laptop just went out, I figure it must be that because if I remove the card I can run on 256mb built into the machine.

My question to the computer guys on the forum is what card will be a suitable replacement for the one that just went out?

The computer is a tough book cf-29 h and the ram card I took out of it is a 1gb pc2700 cl2.5 ddr sodi made by AMXIOM.

What will work for this computer? When it comes to computers I'm none to sharp so dumb it down for me, and if you have a link to the one I should buy that would be a big help.

Thanks, RD

It would be fairly easy to match those specs, but you would have more variety/choices in store for you. Are you strapped for cash? Generally, you should be able to get a Gig of this for about 40.00.

I will look up your book.

Toughbook CF-29HXXXXX takes DDR ram. Pretty standard fair. Your CF-29H should be a MK3, which can take a maximum of a 1GB chip, so thats as high as you go (offically). Its a Pentium Mobile 738. Nice battery life at 7 hours.

A favorite store of mine has two choices for 38.00 each.

(I would buy the Samsung chip)

Hope things work out for you. If you decide to hunt down a bargain, make sure its a brand of RAM you know and that its specs are close. Make SURE you dont get DDR2. Your rig wont recognize it.

It's not a cash issue. it's more like, I have no idea what I'm looking at or for. I went to staples and the only thing they had that was compatible was 85 bucks, that seems a bit high. Going online I don't know what I'm looking for and am bound to screw it up.

So I'm kinda at a impasse, I know enough to know that I don't know enough, knowing that I don't want to spend 50 bucks and get the wrong one.

Just trying to give you as many options as possible...;) But you are at the limit of this machine. I would still keep it though. Its a classic rig that wont let you down.

I've been pretty happy with it. Tough books are all I have ever used or owned, other then having had one completely destroyed this is the first problem I have ever had and I'm pretty rough on them.

So it looks like I'm squared away. Thanks for your help ScottishBoy, I appreciate it.

When I moved from in town to here had desktop that had memory problem, I took memory out and cleaned contacts with a clean eraser. Be worth checking out, could be some build up from vibration from the truck not allowing good connection.
