Welcome aboard,

I'm sure someone will be by to give you a rundown on how a plate rig operates, but your jumping the gun. Basically your asking about how to fly a helicopter before you know anything about fixed wing aircraft.

Welcome BWB. I'd love to help you but I'm just a simple pot stiller. I'm sure that you'll find everything you need to know in the link that spooky gave you. It's long, but you have a lot of learning to do. Not difficult learning though, just a lot.

I would hope that the boiler isn't dry and yes, a double bottom on your boiler would most definately help to stop scorching. Whether it's a necessity is a different matter. You really have a lot reading to do before your still arrives.

Stay Safe
Simple potstiller. Slow, single run.
(50 litre, propane heated pot still. Coil in bucket condenser - No thermometer, No carbon)
The Reading Lounge AND the Rules We Live By should be compulsory reading

Cumudgeon and loving it.
