How long till home distillation is legal?

Post by Greenrvrshine »

Reading in huskers thread, saw RD and Rad mention things are changing as far as the legality of our hobby. Any new news anybody is hearing? Any predictions? Maybe we could get a pool going

Some states are decriminalizing it (in the US). As for the feds, who can tell. Hell, marry jane is still listed as a Class 1 with the feds, so I am not holding my breath for HD being legal.

It will happen as soon as we become a big enough pain in the ass and congress passes a bill so we'll shut up.

And as soon as that happens RD, the UK will fall into line with the US within a month or two, can't wait.

Give the hobby the chance to help the economy of our great country's and trust us to do it legally...
As long as god lets us grow corn and barley, so will we distill what we see as our right...

I'm getting off of the soap box now guy's...

here is how to tell...

1) hold breath...

2) wake up...

3) realize it's not legal yet...

4) repeat...
tell me how hard it is to do... tell me how expensive it will be... just don't tell me what i can not do...

lead, follow, or get out of the way... ankle biters will be kicked...

We should have snuck the bill through while they've been bickering over the debt ceiling... :lolno:

I really don't see it happenin in my life time, and I'm 60 and plan on livin for a good while longer. Thing is, we are a benign lot who are actually very content to be just left alone to our own devices. Don't bother us and we won't bother you, just let us be and we are happy. Personally, I'd be happy to just see things left as they are. If ya get the gov't involved, then no matter what, we will have one H*** of a mess! Distilling isn't making beer or wine, they can say it's inherently dangerous; they'll want ya to get a permit or a liscense, and that means they can come on "our" property, at any time of their choosing, for an "inspection."

The longer I live, the more disgusted I get with those who supposedly govern us. This "debt ceiling" "crisis" was simply a farse. We are approaching the time when we no longer live in a country that is "of the people and by the people." Daily we are getting new rules and regulations shoved down our throats because they don't believe we can govern ourselves. Our Founding Father's are roling in their graves; the vision they dreamed of, a truely free society based on individual responsibility, is passing by the way side. They warned us, too many did not listen.

The way I see it don't tell don't sell, :silent: As long as nobody causes any harm to ones self or others there will be no attention gained to further the bureaucratic, red tape, take more from the little guy, rather than curb their pet project, special interest spending government. I would tend to believe that if it does become legal it will be costly in (more) taxes and loss of privacy on ones own property just so the revenuers can add you to a list. Sure it would be great to enjoy our hobby in the open and be able to share with anyone who we believe to be worthy of the fruits of our labor, but at what price should we pay?

With all the thoughts here it amazes me that we can all come on here and talk about it "openly". I say openly because they could track us down anytime they wanted to from here. Seems they are taking a "bigger fish to fry" standpoint and that is fine with me for now.

If it were made legal in the U.S. With no fees, permits, or oversite, that would be fantastic. However, if that were not the case and we all had to pay to exercise what should be a human right, I would still be under ground. Uncle Sam [Fu#king thief] already has both hands in my pockets. So not much would probably change for me.

There's no other thing(s) that you build, create or make at your home for your personal use that is taxable, or nothing that I can think of.

Build a set of cabinets for your home, no tax. Plant and harvest a garden, no tax. Raise a beef and butcher it for the freezer, no tax.

Letting the government come in and start taxing homemade spirits would be a huge mistake. Next would be wine and beer, then ???

Don't sell, don't tell, be careful and keep your hobby to yourself. It's not illegal to make ethanol, it is a paperwork violation to change the ABV of the ethanol by distilling IF you don't have the proper permits. Few of us have those permits.

If i want to build a deck on my home, my property taxes go up for increasing the value of my home, i also have to pay inspectors and get a building permit (also sales tax on the material). It's getting so you can't wipe yer ass without paying a fee for it.

It would be legal by this afternoon if the Government could figure out a way to actually collect a tax from it. Just like concealed wepon permit, it would just give the government another way to keep track of what I'm up to. I like things just the way they are, don't tell don't sell just enjoy and type about it on this forum. )))
