i was just horrified at the whole setup. creek water, open fermentation, then to top it all off they were putting it in plastic jugs. seriously? water can leach the hydrocarbons out of plastic in no time if it gets warm( bottled water that tastes like plastic). ethanol is much more efficient. and people pay money for that crap? you couldn't pay me to drink it. on the other hand it was immediatly obvious that tims whole situation was a work. so be it, i could care less about the contrived moonshiner, or the old archive footage that is poorly interjected, however out on the hunt with the abc is kinda interesting.

Yeah, I didn't get to watch the tapes episodes until this past weekend and I am having a hard time believing that this isn't all staged... I asked the same question out loud when he went out on the fire call... Did he stop at home to change his clothes before answering the call...??? Surely the other fire department members will know about him as soon as they see the previews... Not to mention that he's been in other shows... And isn't the use of bottled gas quite common out in the hills...??? Would you really need to secretly get propane tanks filled...???

It's definitely amusing to watch... :lolno:

Did you catch the part where the informant tells the cop they were putting bleach in it to stretch out the product? If anyone can't taste bleach they are brain dead. If Tim is selling that much why in the hell don't he just go legal? He already has the customers. The show is total BS.

Personally, my favorite part is when the cops tell the informant if anything goes wrong...the safe word is "help".

Are you kidding me? It's not possible for you to have missed my point any worse! I am an avid hunter, shooter, gun collector, semi-pro gun smith and teach Hunter Ed to kids. My point (I believe 99.9% of the forum got) was that the guy allowed his teenage son on a still site carrying a shot-gun with ABC agents roaming around with Glocks strapped on. The kid should have never been there, but the fact that he has a gun with him is unexcusable.

Im starting to think all of these shows are staged.

Pawn stars is totally staged - they shop isn’t like that at all and those guys are never actually around. There is a line out the door 24-7 there with people just want to see what its like. Nothing like it is on the show.

Gold Rush - somewhat staged and a lot of creative editing. So lets get a bunch of guys out in the middle of no where who have no gold mining experience. Lets have them spend every last dime they have and then only get 10 ounces of gold their first season and wind up broke. Oh crap, its the most watch show and we cant just cancel it cause they are all broke...lets "give" them some money for another season of mining.

Moonshiners - its entertaining, but staged. Like no one knows who this main characters is in town? Like all of the shows, I think it is a mixture of real situations with a lot of embellishment and creative editing. I still think the best part is the code word of "help".

Sad part is, we keep watching all of these shows because they are entertaining :)

Good points, vetting...

Ever wonder why they always have cameras shooting from multiple angles when something "sensational" is taking place...??? Ever wonder how many takes they do to get the drama just right...??? Why is it that you always know something is going to happen...???

Take "Sons of Guns" for example... You'd have to be retarded to have not seen the soon to be match-up of the owners daughter and the dweeb worker who will never measure up... That's been in the works since episode one... Check your video library...

Same goes for the make believe knuckle draggers in the moonshine shows... Just how many cameramen do they have sneaking around in the woods that the local law enforcement hasn't taken notice of being in town...??? Quite a few if you watch the episodes real close... Either that or they do multiple takes... And wouldn't you be kinda leary of setting up a stilling site on someone else's property...??? I highly doubt they are making sure they are running off onto state or federal land... They make it sound like any plot of land with a stream is fair territory...

Wouldn't it be easier to do a run right in a barn, garage, or basement, rather than having to run off into the woods and use ditch water...??? I haven't heard of a case yet where real property has been seized when a still has been discovered... They take the stilling equipment, spirits, and any liquor making related paraphernalia, and that's about it... If they wanted to go after taxes they'd take your real property regardless of where the stilling site was located...

Stay tuned for tomorrow nights episode... I can hardly wait... If I don't have to record it to watch later, that is... Either way I'll be answering a lot of questions from the other half throughout the show about one thing or another...

@ boda getta

so should it be fake child endangerment like the show is, or the real thing.
I'm a bit confused at your original post you seem to flip flop on weather you think the show is real or some kinda put on
act.
As i see your 2A now I can see your anger about lack of resposability on the dads part but the show is a put on soooo
how's good old dad endangering anything?

I've streamed the show over to the UK for viewing... So many holes in the first 2 shows that Tim could probably sell his shine as Swiss cheese...
I agree with Rad, if your gonna do it, why not do it in a nice warm barn instead of a night shift in the woods.
And the time frame, 120 gallons of shine by the next morning... "I gotta go, I've got an emergency", thats when I refilled my jar, took a sip and said, "Now thats Moonshine..."

Still it's good viewing, even if it is a mock up... Bring back Popcorn, at least his wash, still, methodology, philosophy and shine were sound...

I caught the third episode tonight..... I dont think ill be watching again.

Unless I get the "car crash" urge and there's nothing else on :D

All I got out of it was hes running a very leaky black pot still and producing crap, it looked like he was barely getting over 110 proof. The fixing the leaks with duct tape, transferring with garden hoses, using milk jugs, filtering with pillow cases and digging out dead insects actually got me almost mad.

I hate to think about how many people are going to give this a go and think that's the right way of doing it.

My wife wants to get me some of them overalls and a cowboy hat just for a laugh now tho

I liked when the hunter walks by and they duck behind some barrels but the camera man stays in the open. Looks like the next episode shows him trying to go legit. I wouldn't drink his stuff. Not a chance.

My favorite part was when his ABV dropped and he poured more sugar in the boiler, put the cap back on and said it would increase the ABV at the out put! LOL :esurprised:

It truly is a damned shame that people are watching this and thinking that this is how its done........................... :(

The spreading of disinformation is a good way to scare people and get them to become snitches... If they are ill-informed it makes it easier for them to report someone they think is doing wrong... Weighing in on the interpretation of wrong being the operative here... While someone may not think of making spirits at home is wrong they may think it is dangerous and in need of reporting if they feel that the spirits might be more harmful than store bought... This forum makes every effort to disassociate its members from the stereotypical moonshiner depicted in shows like this... And I truly hope we don't have any members that fall into the same category as those depicted...

+1 This tactic worked for them during prohibition. I'm not saying some of the bad stuff didn't go on back then, but it would be foolish to deny that an enormous propaganda campaign was carried out in those days.

Reckon the same is happening today Kurgen, different strokes - different folks... As long as we have single-minded folks watching shows like this and believing what's being portrayed, then the stigma that was born during prohibition, ain't ever gonna leave the hobby...

Just read your link H, thanks man... But how come I ain't surprised? Guess governments will stoop to any lengths to ensure their coffers are catered for first... We would be a lot better of if Dick Turpin (Highwayman) was in charge of the treasury...

Off to give episode 3 a screening with a full jar...

Husker, good read. It doesn't surprise me though :x. I said it before and i'll say it again, I wish this show had never been made. You can't tell me that a quality production can't be made, we have some out there already. This is however, the Discovery channel.....
