Hi
I'm trying to come up with a sugar wash, but threre is soooooo many sugars.
i was looking at
cane sugar (evaporated cane juice)
Wholesome Sweeteners Demarara Sugar (Turbinado Style)
Rapunzel Whole Cane Sugar
Barbados Old-Fashioned Molasses (liquid)
I was looking for fancy molasses but can only find blackstrap, which i understand does not have as much sugar and its kind of bitter.
I will use Ec-1118 to ferment, and adding some yeast nutrition.
Of the list of sugar, which one would you recomend to use for an effective sugar wash?

are ya trying to make rum or vodka... looks like rum so id go with the turbinado, brown, or cane... if ya making vodka I use pure cane

Have a read through the tried and true recipe section, you should find somethin there that won't be too challenging. ...Gerber maybe? ...Most of us use standard table sugar (the cheap stuff).

I like astronomical's answer as even with my birdwatchers I can taste a difference between granulated as opposed to natural sugar even in my neutrals. However after saying that if you are going to infuse with other flavors then I am not sure the taste is discernable. If you are making rum then I think the sugar plays a larger factor in the equation, you will have to experiment and see what product you like best.

The BEST sugar to use for a specific wash is the one that produces the resulting spirits that YOU like the most... Experimentation is the only real way to know which one best suits your individual needs for a specific recipe... Go forth and experiment because that's part of what makes this hobby so much fun...

dilute blackstrap 4 to 1 with rainwater, add 1 tablespoon of dap and pitch the EC1118. You should have about 1
8% in 3-4 days. Makes a good rum.

Its is very true, this hobby is all about trying new things and experimenting. There is so much Sugar that i wanted to hear your guys experience.
I will try different things.
Questions, i read that you use 1lb sugar/gallon? I will use my 26 gallon kettle
what is your recommendation. I will use EC-1118 how much should i put?
do i need to DAP? What does DAP stand for?
Where can i buy this DAP?
Any other valuable thing i need to have to make sure the fermentation runs smoothly?

How much sugar do you guys add to the gallon?
and how much DAP and EC-1118 do you add to a 26 gallon kettle?
I probably will have just 20 gallon water and the rest sugar.

the bottle says .5-4 grams /gallon. i do a variation of winos in the tried and true section. that being said i don't measure my sugar that close but it is around 7 lbs for 5 gal wash and 4 Tbs of dap when i use it. so x 4 for your wash. you might need some nutrients in your wash

You still haven't really said what your trying to make. Rum or sugar wash for a neutral?
Yes this hobby is about experimenting. But you need to have the basics down before you can effectively experiment. If this is your first I would highly recommend using a tried and true recipe for your first. If followed a tried and true recipe will be a consistent producer. And if you were to run into some kind of trouble with a tried and true recipe. There are many around here that have already done them. So getting help is very easy. Where if you just throw what you mite think would work in a pot and go. No one will be in a good position to help. Many could speculate and try to help? It usually is a long drawn out process with many questions being asked. But I'd it were a tried and true recipe most all problems have occurred and have posted solutions in the respective threads. Plus knowing what to expect from a tried and true recipe will allow you to learn to drive your still with more confidence. Where something you just made up you won't know what to expect while trying to learn to drive your still.
In short you are much better off to start out simple and work your way up from there.

I wanted to make a sugar wash, but that is just regular table sugar. So i saw different kind of sugar, and why not just mix different sugars and make a wash. What i want is something at least that taste good. something simple and not complicated.
i have looked a few recipes, but i want to user their ideas and make my own adventure by mixing the sugars.
All i want to know is how much sugar for every gallon. since i will use 20 gallon of water, i would like to know how much sugar to add. Is it 1lb/gallon 1.5lb/gallon?
How much DAT and nutrition do you add to that amount of sugar
How much EC-1118 do you add for each gallon or for each pound of sugar.
I will use
Whole Cane Sugar
Molasses
Cane sugar
I will experiment with what i use the most, maybe even the same amount of each.
Any suggestion and help is welcome.

I'm trying to help you here. But you still haven't told us what it is exactly you are trying to make. A sugar wash is usually made to be used in the making of a neutral or vodka. Where there are no flavors. Usually ran through a reflux still or a pot still multiple times to clean it up. So the use of flavored sugars is counter productive. And the cheapest sugar you can get your hands on will suffice. If you are wanting to pull a flavor from the sugar it would be more of a rum wash. And the most flavorfull sugars should be used. And the appropriate yeast to go with it. Then ran on a pot still once or twice so the flavors are still there.I wanted to make a sugar wash, but that is just regular table sugar. EC-1118 is a good yeast for a neutral. Not the best for a rum. It would work but bread yeast would be better suited for a rum.
I'm just trying to figure out what it is exactly you want to make. Because depending on what this is the advice will be different. So please let us know what it is you want to make. A neutral/vodka or a rum? While your at it what kind of still will you be running it in and how?
Edited to add. A regular sugar wash will taste good if done properly.

The molasses is the only expensive one, the rest has a good price.
Can i buy this at a regular brewery store? and is it a special kind that i should ask for?It would work but bread yeast would be better suited for a rum.
I will use a pot still, not a reflux-still. This is my first time making rum, but this is the information that I understood.While your at it what kind of still will you be running it in and how?
Heat up the water, let say 5 gallon and add the sugar so it can dissolve.
Once it is dissolved i add the rest of the water (total 20gallon- what PH is recommended, 6.0 - 5.8?
Then i use the hydrometer to measure the gravity.
Then i add DAP (don't know how much) and nutrition (don't know how much) and make sure the temp is not higher than 85 - 90 degrees. (depending on the yeast)
I will add air to it with air bubbles for 30 minutes (like the one it used for fish tanks).
Then i add the yeast and let is sit there for a few days.
Is it anything that i missed?
Could you help me with the things that i'm missing, like the quantities of DAT and Nutrition and so on.

Bread yeast or bakers yeast is the yeast used in making bread. You would find it in a grocery store here in the US. Depending on your location? It may be found in a health food store? As long as it is activities bakers yeast it will work.
I'm still going to point you to some tried and true recipes. I'm still a firm believer in the tried and true recipes. They are there for a good reason. They work. And they work good.
Here is a good one. Pugi's Rum or "Pugirum" You could adjust the sugars to what ever kind you want. To make it the same SG as the recipe calls for.

I'm fermenting my 7th generation of UJSSM and it's taught me a huge amount about the ferment, distilling and how to run my equipment. It's a hard one to actually screw up. Just get some cracked corn, sugar, yeast and water and you're good to go. No cooking involved either.
