Trouble

Post by heartcut »

Just found out that my oldest son (35 years old) has Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a type of immune system cancer. He was fine 2 weeks ago and is now in the ICU. They're still doing tests, don't really know much. My wife left this morning to join him and I will soon. Old as I am it wouldn't be that big a deal for me but it's a real shame for someone that young. His wife and 4 kids are pretty freaked out- so am I.

Rush Limbaugh has been raising money fer Hodgkin's lymphoma fer many years... just yesterday he had his yearly telethon...from listening to him, they have made some really good advancements in survivabilitya since he started over20 years ago. You'll probably want to know every thing you can about it and education is part of what that group he works with does... I can't remember tha name of the group but I bet you could go to Rush Limbaugh web site to find out. Ill be saying a prayer for him and your family, but take heart, I remember rush sayin yesterday thata 10 yr survivability has increased to somethin like 70%.

Home alone with a worried mind, so it's the atrium and the still, running some rum. Thanks for the concern and kind words. That means a lot.

Found out this morning that my son has the best variety of Hodgkin's as far as treatability goes. They're starting chemo today and we should know something soon. Running the still last night was very theraputic. So is reading about all your good wishes, thoughts and prayers. Thank you all.

So sorry to hear that Heartcut, but some words of encouragement, my very best friend in the world is a survivor of the same. He was only 19 when he got it and is now 42, we go fishin, huntin and all other sorts of outdoor stuf together, he lives every day as if it were going to be his last and has drawn me into that life style as well. For him and myself in a way it has changed life for the better. THERE is hope coyote, best wishes. OMD

Sorry to hear about your son heartcut, my heart goes out to him and your family. Treatment is getting better every minute, and that's great news about the variety your son has. A friend's father had Hodgkin's a few years ago and has made a full recovery, still in remission. Best of luck!

Thanks again for all the encouragement. OMD, hearing about your friend helped my son and I both. They installed some kinda valve in my son's chest to put the chemo stuff into his artery annd will leave it there till he's off the treatments. His skin will heal up over it and they'll just stick the needle back into it every 15 days. But check this out, the nurses had to wear gloves, protective suits and masks to handle the stuff they were putting into his blood. "Don't get any of that on you." Despite that, things are looking pretty good, and he's sleeping at home for now.

Just got off the phone with my son- his bone marrow is still in good shape, indicating it's stage 2, really good news. Been checking on some mushrooms that are supposed to help (thanks BD), looking at the references on Rush's site and the Houston Memorial Hermann. Also the Dulci Berry or Miracle fruit, which is supposed to improve your sense of taste while doing chemo. Didn't know untill I looked there that Rush has been helping gather money for leukemia and lymphoma for the last 20+ years (thanks wacabi1). I'm working 12 hrs/day trying to finish this project (staying busy is good), end of next week I'm going to see my son. Mrs heartcut has been there since we found out. Thanks again, everyone. This helps.

Thats great news ;) I've tried that miracle fruit stuff before, and can say its pretty wild, even if you're sense of taste doesn't need 'improvement'. I'd give it a go yourself while your son is takin it, could be fun for the whole family! :)
