If I use Fleishmanns active dry yeast for the Birdwatchers recipe how much do i need to use?
...and do I sprinkle it in or mix it in warm water first?
Thanks

Have you read through the thread? There are a few recipes that have been converted in size but not sure if any use Fleishmanns. I am on vacation and don't have access to the conversion but I found the conversion from bakers yeast to dry Fleishmanns on line through a google search.

2-3 teaspoons/5 gal, although other's will probably say more. If your pot stillin that's a good amount, if your refluxing more won't hurt.
Rehydrate first in sterile water @ 95-105F.

I am going off memory and remember I am on vacation but it seems like for my reflux it is 4 teaspoons per 5 gal wash.rtalbigr wrote:2-3 teaspoons/5 gal, although other's will probably say more. If your pot stillin that's a good amount, if your refluxing more won't hurt.

As per my normal sugar wash pitch rate, I use 1 Tablespoon of Fleischmann's Dry Active Yeast per gallon in my Birdwatchers...

Re: Active Dry Yeast In Birdwatchers
I just mixed my first bw mash today (25 litre version) and I also used dried active yeast. My yeast comes in 125g packs so I split it in half 66g.Jill The Still wrote:If I use Fleishmanns active dry yeast for the Birdwatchers recipe how much do i need to use?

I mixed the sugar n water, then mixed in the tomato and lemon and allowed to sit for a while to deflouride the water.
Then I added the yeast and shook it up.
It's better to have too little than too much when going for a neutral spirit and I think 66g may prove to be too much but I'll report.
I'm also using double strength tomato puree instead of paste, another risk. All experimenting, can't be any worse than turbo yeast.
Correction:
1) 66 isn't actually half of 125 and
2) I only used 60g in the end anyway.
I'm gonna have 5 grams left over, what can be done with 5 grams of yeast?
I don't argue, I debate.
