phase controller

Post by vinper »

On the pamolli thread there are 2 builds 1 with the prs-25 the other with ssrman and relay.... does the prs-25 have the phase controller already built in? seems like less parts and the cheaper one to build..

All the PSR-25 requires is a potentiometer to function properly... A 500K Ohm 1W - 2W as I recall... And a heat sink, of course...

I re-checked the manufacturers specifications and they state 250K 1W for 240V or 100K 1W for 120V... Whether those are real-world application numbers or not is subject to debate, however... If you go bigger you can always run a parallel resistor to fine tune performance... And for cheaper potentiometers you might want to go with a 2W rating...

If you are going to start it out with 110v and move to 220, You can use the 250k pot for 220v, the control isnt quite as fine though. That way you wouldnt have to change the controller at all if you make the switch.

i used an amd socket 939 cool master heatsink and fan for one i had it laying around from a pc build i did and had leftover, for 2 since i needed power for the ammeter i just wired the fan into the mix and presto runs cool and easy. i first started out with a router speed controller but i didnt like how there was a range that was cut out, so thats why i built the psr-25 build and i wont look at anyother controller as this one is PERFECT!!!!
