Thanks for sharing this, I haven't heard of this. I bet Jack will love this, no barrels, no aging, :wtf: surely it will be cheaper right? I bet not :sarcasm:

Might have to get some and try it out. It'll probably be more expensive to start as it hits the market then drop off as interest drops off.

$50 a bottle. Unaged. No barrel. Charcoal filtered. It would want to be delicious.

And they are using rye. That's probably not the best choice for the customers looking for white. But I could be wrong.

Well that Rye would fall in line with JD wanting to provide a unique flavor profile... Can't say as that surprises me any... I used to combine rye for an old moonshiner 30+ years ago...

This is a good write up and review. White dog won't likely be mainstream for a while, but it is definitely on many people's radars.

As a huge fan of Jack, I'm obligated to at least buy a bottle and give it a shot. Sounds delicious

It is made with a combination of 70 percent rye – 19 percent above the legal minimum for a rye whiskey – 18 percent corn and 12 percent malted barley.

Thanks for the grain bill.

Who is gonna be the first to make this one on HD??

I can't speak for the JD version but back in August I had to travel to Iowa and could not bring my home made booze with me :( . I found this while I was up there.....

It is Cedar Ridge unaged whiskey. Not bad for store bought, but i was glad to get back to the homemade stuff!

I was doing the JD distillery tour last summer and had a chance to taste the regular JD white. They use their white JD to ignite the rickets of maple wood
for making their charcoal. The tour guide comes down the line with a pump sprayer full of white, and sprays the back of tourists hands so they can feel, smell
the raw likker. When the feller came to me, I cupped my palm and he put a nice shot in there. Honestly it was awful, full of heads, hot. But sill nice
to have had the opportunity.

I really don't understand how unaged whiskey commands a higher price. It's pretty funny, imo.

Another use for heads I haven't thought of, now to talk the wife out of one of her spray bottles :D

It is considered a novelty item and as such commands a higher price... It's a quick profit maker for distilleries and also allows new start-ups a way to turn a profit while waiting for aging spirits to reach maturity... Many start-ups have failed simply because they couldn't financially endure the lag time between initial investment and waiting for marketable spirits according to legal definitions... Established distilleries are just now starting to see the lucrative benefits of offering spirits on the white...

Saw a bottle of this for $50 today...."wow" is all I can say... especially when I can buy the same thing distilled locally (legal of course) for $25!
The man bangin' on the door yelled "Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms!"....I just assumed it was more supplies.

A little while back a couple of other "home distillers" aka "moonshiners" and I took a tour of the Four Roses factory in Lawrenceburg KY. As it was a Wednesday, it turned out that the tour consisted only of the four of us and the tour guide. Well you know how shiners like to discuss distilling stuff and it didn't take long before the tour guide knew what our hobby was. He took right to us, went into much more detail than he would with a normal tour, then when we got the part of the tour where the white dog was runs through a glass column with the tasters door in it, he pulled out a glass, filled it up and let us all have a real good taste. I bring this up because I've tried the JD white dog, and it's okay, but I've never tasted anything like the white dog at Four Roses. It was the best! The JD isn't even close. So if you find yourselves traveling down the Bluegrass Highway near Lawrenceburg KY sometime on a Wednesday afternoon, make sure you pull in for a tour. You might get lucky too!

Here it is gentlemen.
All I can say is first sip a bit of a bite, followed with a slow smooth transition.
Pretty cool idea of them though, whether it be to make more money or not.

I like the way the label looks like it was done with an old typewriter that had a clogged up lower case p. Truth be told it was made on a high tech computer and they had to search for a crappy font! Moose_755 Did you drink enough to tell if they did any cuts on it? Does it give you a hangover?

Just got it today Richard7. Didn't drink enough to have a hangover tomorrow.
Also how would I notice if they made any cuts?
I'm still new at all this, but I would say it was close to the end of Heads.

Hangover = no cuts, Like most marketed booze. They run continuous distillation.

What's the ABV/proof of this stuff? I was given a bottle of Buffalo Trace white dog as a gift, the first commercial white dog I ever tried. It's 125 proof and pretty rough in my opinion. Kinda turned me off to the whole white dog thing. Maybe I should water it down a bit and try some more....

Sounds like easy money for JD until the novelty wears off.

buffalo trace mash #1 is some of the smoothest out there. its 125 proof and should be cut to 80-100 for drinking. If you didn't like buffalo trace stop now they dont get better.

Tried the Buffalo Trace white dog watered down to about 80 proof. Much better that way for my tastes, in fact quite nice, DuckofDeath. Maybe "rough" was the wrong adjective. At 125 proof, it is just a bit strong for sipping for me.

I keep going back & smelling the bottle of the JD white dog. I love it, the smell is of a fruit smell.
Which is supposedly from the high percentage of rye...
Has any body bought a bottle?
I'm looking to replicate it. Or of something similar
Their grain bill is 70 percent rye, 18 percent corn and 12 percent barley malt.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to start reading?
Thanks fellas

Their distillery is pretty close to me and had a chance to take a tour there last summer. Batch distilled so much better than typical store bought. Their unaged is almost half price of their bourbon...as it should be. They came out with a single malt a couple months ago that I can't wait to try.
