Howdy I'm relatively new to the actual action of making my own hooch I have read numerous post
About sweet feed and you can't or shouldn't use feed with pellets my question is can I get a straight answer
Can you use feed with pellets and I'd not what brand of feed is preferred thanks in advance Southern pride

Short answer you can use feed with pellets but its not going to give you near the quality of product than if it was just allgrain...

You could probably use a dog turd too but not as good as good ol corn...

Pellets are usually made from alfalfa, floor sweepings etc. their not gonna hurt you it will just leave a funky taste in your drink. Go to your local feed store and ask for sweetfeed without pellets. Just tell them I'm feedin my animals and they don't like pellets. Some brands label the bag "with pellets" and some don't. If you get one with, just pick them out. Takes a little longer but you don't waste your money this way. Welcome and be safe!

Thanks guys I found a YouTube vid of a guy I got the answer
Late last night it's called producers pride for 12.99 at tractor supply
Followed to a t and low and behold I got some soup
Simmering in a 5 gallon water bottle I will be sure to let
You all know the outcome finger crossed sincerely

There ya go pardner... That's what I use with great success. I no longer make UJSSM. Sweetfeed only for my clear hooch... It's good on charred oak as well...

The soup is nearly done after only 24 hours
Seems a little fast but the bubbles are few
And far between now. Gonna let it settle til
Sunday and fire it up. Will post results late Sunday
Or Monday depends on how good it is and how much
I have and by the way has anyone ever tried adding
Clear peach extract to the final product. I don't want
To " marinate" the actual fruit and discolor it.

Unless you had a very low OG sweetfeed shouldn't finish out that quick. And be ready to run in 4 days. I guess you could run it dirty as all get out. But you have a better chance of scorching and off flavors. If you run it to dirty. Patients is needed in this hobby. Rushing things doesn't work.

No I didnt take SG readings I have been following this video I found the only difference is I used a different type of yeast its called Liquor quik ALCOBASE EXTREME 23% ABV ..... the bubbles are coming about once every 5 minutes in the airlock the top 2/3 of the soup is how should I say, free of the typical debris as it has settled to the bottom....gonna run it on sunday this will be my first run fingers crossed.... Turbo yeast in a sweetfeed from a recipe in a video. Mmmm that sounds tasty.

In all fairness the video guy didn't use Turbo yeast.

He did use Ice in his condenser which I have read (on this forum) is a no-no.

Also if he would have siphoned his mash from his bucket to his fermenter, Much less of a mess to clean up.

Also siphoning from his fermenter to his boiler would have reduced sediment in the boiler..... Guess my beer experience is carrying over.

Looked like he had his thermo in a rubber stopper also.

All that being said the video was informative and worth the time it took to watch it.

All righty everyone interested.This was the recipe I used 5 gallon bucket...... 5" of sweet feed "ALL GRAIN" with a sprayed molasses, 4 gallons of distilled water, stir put in pot heat slowly up to 150 hold for an hour, remove from heat strain away particles,rinsing each full screen with a little of the 5th gallon of water, add 5 lbs of sugar, stir, let cool to 80 degrees add the ALCOBASE 23 yeast, ferment for 4 days @ 75 degrees, 4 days and the yeast becomes inactive, strain again through microscopic filter cloth I found at brewers store, cook at your stills happy temp mine personally was 205, and let the good times drip away, in any case I have accumulated 7 jars, 1st jar-60 ABV/120 proof for every sequential jar thereafter drop 10 points in proof and the last jar being 40 ABV, the first and last 2 jars will be thrown back in the next run giving me a total of 4 jars of good ole sipping syrup...... will update on the second run.... and yea I disposed of the first 60 ml I wasnt comfortable with 40 or 50..... any critics are more than welcome to give me some pointers or ideas for my second run that I will be conducting approximately sunday morning.... sincerely SOUTHERN PRIDE

Follow the sweetfeed recipe found in the tried and true recipe section. Using something other then a turbo yeast. Your heating and holding temp didn't do much of anything but waste time. Since you didn't add malt or enzymes. Basically you washed the molasses off the grains cooked a little starch out of some of the grains. But you had nothing to convert the starches to sugar. So you made more of a lite rum then anything.

Keep your wash potential ABV at 14% or under (2 pounds sugar per gallon) and only use half of the yeast per gallon... ie. if the directions say the sachet makes 5 gallons and you're making 5 gallons, use half... It it makes 10 gallons and you're making 5 gallons, use 1/4...

Southern Pride please remember that if it looks too good, sounds too good, or has that "wow" effect that just compells you to the point of "I gota get me some of that!" Then you have probably been succombed by advertising and someone more interested in selling a product than the quality we on here all strive to achieve! Research a product on here before buying if unsure. Would suggest in an investment of hydrometers , both SG and distilling if you dont have one of each already (buy 3 of each at a time they break easily!) Throw a palm full of JD chips per quart in a jar with your sweet feed shine and leave for as long as you can stand it, dont be afraid to try a few with cherry chips Enjoy.
