Potentiometer no worky
My relay and potentiometer are not functioning correctly. When I move the knob, the voltage doesn't change. It has 120 going into the relay, and 115 coming out.
I'm using a clarostat 25 k linear pot RV4NAYSD253A, and a Crydon A4850 SSR.

Re: Potentiometer no worky
The 48 series SSR is a voltage input SSR. The 4850 is the 50amp version. It will not work. You need a resistance input SSR

That unit requires AC voltage on the trigger side, not a potentiometer... You can either spend money on the proper control circuit (not recommended) or purchase the correct SSR (recommended)...

Re: Potentiometer no worky
I purchased a different relay, one I seen someone said would work on this forum. Still not working
KYOTTO AC Solid State Variable Relay
Part No. : KR2075AX
All it seems to do is knock 25 volts off.

Re: Potentiometer no worky
Think I just figured it out. Does one of the prongs on the pot need to be grounded, or wired to one of the other prongs?

No, either the left or right prong stays open. Which ever side you hook to is the direction of turn for the pot. The other wire goes to the centre prong.
What is the resistance on your pot? Did you use the one that came with the SSR? Cheap Chinese pots are usually pretty good but I've had a few bad ones repairing guitars.
Give us a rough schematic of your hookup.

Re: Potentiometer no worky
here's a very basic schematic on how to hook up the pot. Everything needs to be grounded, case included, the pot itself not so much but I ground mine anyways with a lug under the washer that tightens it on.

Re: Potentiometer no worky
Thats how it has been wired up, and I tried two different pots. So I was wondering if Ishould do it like this one.

Re: Potentiometer no worky
well it's one of two things, the pot or the SSR. have you metered the pot to ensure it's 500k?

Re: Potentiometer no worky
I grounded the unused post off the pot and it works, I guess. The voltage would fluctuate, but was not very stable/consistent.
