Hello ALL! Making some killer 'shine on a small pot still!
Just wanted to introduce myself and my homemade still (cost me a mere 15 bucks to make, as I already had MOST of the equipment!!) It's a 2.5 gallon pot, with a 5 gallon bucket holding the worm and 10ft of 1/2in. copper, which gave me about a 3ft gooseneck!
This all started out as a "before I die I want to do...." list! Lol...
Now its turned into a FREAKING madhouse trying to get my license to distill, collect pieces for a 10-20 gallon pot distiller... Blah blah blah!
Anyways, name's Shot, if you see ANYTHING with a $ sign on it, I've built it! Haha... I run my own company(s) now, this is just going to be a "mini-distillery", set up in a MASSIVE garage I have outback of my home. Should be fun, but for now, this is what I'm "LEARNING THE TRADE ON" (even though i'm already putting out 180 proof shine!!!)....
I MAKE EVERYTHING MYSELF! LOL... EVEN MY AIRLOCKS!
'
* I TRIED TO POST PICS AND IT SAYS THEY CAN'T BE MORE THAN 1000 PIXELS WIDE... EVEN THOUGH, I JUST resized ALL the pics I wanted to share! *

Re: Hello ALL! Making some killer 'shine on a small pot stil
I did EXACTLY as everyone said with the photos... I'm out here in Virginia to answer your questions! Hopefully these pics will work and yall can see what I built with my old ass uncles help (OLDTIMER MOONSHINER! Who's actually on his death bed, it seems... he's lived a rough life but has taught me a LOT!)
Anyways... please don't "bash" my 2.5 gallon pot still. I had ALL of this, except the copper tubing at home, so it was all built for free! Let's try to show photos.....
First I'll show you the still and it producing!
Homemade airlocks work ABSOLUTELY perfect! (this is my first sugar mash cooking away!!)
ALL THIS LIGHTNING!!!
CRYSTAL CLEAR!!!
Started my own recipes, that EVERYONE LOVES!!! They're all at 100 proof, 12oz jars...
FROM LEFT TO RIGHT!
Peach Cobbler ----- Apple Pie ----- Honeydew (ALL MY OWN RECIPES!!!! AND SIMPLY DELICIOUS IF I DON'T SAY SO MYSELF!)
Sorry... Gotta make another run with my Sugar Wash, I'll check back in later! Be Easy Fellas...

Re: Hello ALL! Making some killer 'shine on a small pot stil
What y'all think?!
I'm all about some recipes too, if someone wants to share them!
I like to "infuse" my finished product (after it goes thru 3 coffee filters), so infusion recipes are what I'm REALLY looking for!
I made my sugar wash from 100% White Grape Juice Concentrate, sugar and yeast. Plus just A TINY pinch of amylase enzyme.... Its like she'll NEVER stop "cooking" (fermenting)! But you can tell just by the smell and taste that this is going to be a POTENT batch!
I would like a "White Strawberry Shine" (aka White Grape/Strawberry infused sugar LIQUOR!!!
ANY IDEAS?!

You might not want to put pics of yourself, your kid, your car with license plate showing, a large amount of cash, or drug paraphernalia. Never know who looks at these. Use your head man

Yea, I've been meaning to make another YouTube AND Photobucket acct. Under a false name and email address, etc... I'll jump on that, but the pics will be down for a while until I can edit this with the new links!!MadMasher wrote:You might not want to put pics of yourself, your kid, your car with license plate showing, a large amount of cash, or drug paraphernalia. I was thinking about cutting the strawberries in half, then "boilng" them w/ a little sugar, in just enough water to simmer would yield good results as far as FLAVOR! Then i can put the concoction in a blender and REALLY get it broken down good...ainsophaur wrote:i read somewhere in this forum that you can put strawberries ect. into a jar, cover them with sugar and let them sit and the juices come out? its here somewhere im certain...search the hd goole dearch thing...tis a gateway to un consumable amounts of knowledge!
Then I can have a choicw of putting it in my wash with a cheesecloth, or if i wanted to infuse it, I could just use the sweet ass strawberry mixture in the FINAL product!
I think j may try this... As I've done it with dried fruit before and it turned out AMAZING!

Re: Hello ALL! Making some killer 'shine on a small pot stil
Size your pics down. And upload them here. This is the preferred method anyway. Size it down so the widest number is 600 or less. And it will be fine.
I would follow the strawberry panty dropper recipe. Instead of boiling anything.

Will check that out.... I'm running a rice mash and potato mash right now, waiting for them to finish fermenting! MAN, amylase enzyme works WONDERS on your final wash!!!
Anyways.... I'm also trying to build a new still. Same design AS I HAVE, just with a thump Keg on it!
I've already got a brand new 4 gallon bucket for the worm. I just need to get me a decent size pickle jar, all the NEW copper tubing (0.5"x20ft), all of the fittings and such for the copper, and my new 16 quart (4 gallon) pot!!!
It's going to take me a lil while at this rate! Nonetheless, thats what im shootin' for.
Yall boys be easy now!

Not trying to be mean but you should re think your design, you aren't getting the full capacity of the boiler and its very likely to puke with that set up. A lot of people with small pots flip a stainless bowl on the top and build a column up from that. There are good designs on this site.I'm also trying to build a new still. Same design AS I HAVE, just with a thump Keg on it!
No one here will advise you do make a thumper from glass. 1/3 of your boiler size is the minimum recommended size for a thumper, 1.33 gallons for a 4 gallons boiler. I just need to get me a decent size pickle jar, all the NEW copper tubing (0.5"x20ft), all of the fittings and such for the copper, and my new 16 quart (4 gallon) pot!!!
I like the enthusiasm but I'm not sure what your talking aboutI'm running a rice mash and potato mash right now, waiting for them to finish fermenting! MAN, amylase enzyme works WONDERS on your final wash!!!

Re: Hello ALL! Making some killer 'shine on a small pot stil
Well, what I'm talking about, is using amylase enzyme while cooking my washes... It REALLY helps with bringing out those starches from the ACTUAL product your using, were as before, I was REALLY just using the corn, rice, potatoes, etc as a "flavor enhancer". Now I'm actually ABLE to break down the startches in the grain... It has TRULY made a HUGE deal on the way that my batches ferment!MadMasher wrote:Not trying to be mean but you should re think your design, you aren't getting the full capacity of the boiler and its very likely to puke with that set up. THAT'S the plan for the NEW Pot Still....! Only reason iI went out the "side" of THIS pot was because it was just the easiest, quickest setup for the time being. She's NEVER puked on me, as its a 2.5 gallon pot, I only distill a gallon a run

WELL, old paint can it is then! Thanks for the tip!

Re: Hello ALL! Making some killer 'shine on a small pot stil
Enzymes, they are what make living good!
Here is a site I just found, there are many others of course.
Especially useful when brewing with adjuncts, as the OP indicated he is using several sources of starch.
http://www.specialtyenzymes.com/products/term/brewing
I especially like how they say
"Can be used for faster throughput in a brewerey, or as a double check measure. Ideal for lighter styled bears"
Not to be a spelling snob but that's just funny. I picture some "light style bears" playing in the park...

I understand what enzymes do, just not sure why you are running your wash while waiting for it to finish fermenting or what a final wash is.

I agree, I was also confused by that.MadMasher wrote:I understand what enzymes do, just not sure why you are running your wash while waiting for it to finish fermenting or what a final wash is.
Sometimes thoughts don't come out through the keyboard the way they were ordered in our heads, I'm thinking it may be one of those things.

I can only run a 1-2 gal. everyday, therefore, I have it set up where I might be running 1.5 gallons of potato wash one day, but still have another 1.5 gallons fermenting in my "fermentor". Its a steady process, as everything finishes as I finish a batch. I just refill and they're ALL in different "stages", ALL AT ONCE! Make sense?! Lol... Probably not!

Small stove tops with side mount arm won't 'Stack',
nor will they ever produce a good, Clear, Clean product.
A 2nd,3rd run is needed ..Sounds like alot for such a little.
Very, Very Inefficient .Please answer Mr. Piss's question.

Greetings, ShotnVA777...
Here's a hint... STOP using CAPITALIZED words like you need to tell us what needs to be emphasized and what doesn't... It makes you look too over-enthusiastic and green... Yes, it really does...!!! I can almost sense your excessive pride in yourself just by reading this topic and it's not an admirable trait... Not to mention that it makes your posts read like several of the less than reputable still vendor sites we keep track of here... Slow down and calm down... You'll be fine when the swelling goes down...
Good luck, stay safe, and enjoy the journey...

Oh look, a picture with a company name and phone number. Google the number? Oh look, an address along with another name and phone number, as well as an email address with the same username as on this site. A facebook link? Oh look the business, they spread dirt around. One comment from our member. Click the name? oh look, pictures of him and family and friends. So we've got his name, phone number, occupation, address of occupation and pictures of his car, family, and illegal substances. Hmmmm
