Just getting into home distilling after reading Ian Smileys book.... in it he mentions the advantage of a narrow diameter glass cylinder for hydrometer readings. Ordinarily a 250ml graduated cylinder is used with a hydrometer, but this takes over 200ml to get a reading. With a narrow diameter cylinder you could get a reading with less then 100ml
The problem is, it seems this type of cylinder must be custom made by a glass shop. I have not been able to find a commercially available one.
My question is, would there be a market for a narrow diameter hydrometer cylinder, with a retail price of around $10.00? Would anyone consider spending this much for a cylinder?
I actually work in the glass industry, and am considering having these cylinders made up. Any feedback from home distillers would be great!

Re: small diameter hydrometer cylinder
Test cylinders are usually just big enough for the hydrometer you use... Mine wouldn't fit an anything smaller than what I have and use ~125ml/4oz samples for testing... My hydrometer and alcoholmeter are of the larger type...

Re: small diameter hydrometer cylinder
i bought mine that came with its own jar- probably not the best as the jar base is more test tube like so doesnt that help with the readings either but was cheap
, but yeah i can see a market if ur the pro looking for some proper gear and dont want to mess with suicidal hydrometers and jars
