The other night I caught a fake/reality show called Appalachian Outlaws. The fact that a root can be worth so much money intrigued me. Towards the end of the episode the leap to shining is made, specifically in TN. The show states in 2009 the state legalized shinin for personal consumption then in 2012 legalized the sale of such from non permitted distilleries.

Just curious if someone can shed more light on this. Does not affect me either way but wondering if this is more "reality" bullshit or if it is true.

At the end of the show the unattended still blows up cause the yahoos are out lookin for ginseng to add to their shine for a unique product. At a claimed $1000.00 a pound for the root those jars must cost a lot!

I caught that statement and was wondering the same thing as you. The fellow stated he had a 500 case order.

All bullshit! In TN they legalized micro-distilleries but ya still gotta have Federal license, county license, proper zoning, inspections, etc.

I caught the part about 500 cases as well. That equates to either 3,000 or 6,000 bottles he claimed to need in a month. I saw the still and can't imagine that is possible. Doing the math that equates to 16.666
cases a day. I have at least three times the volume of his setup and could not do that.

I caught that episode the other night, what a couple of morons. Since when is a still in a shack/shed a distillery if so we all have distilleries. We need to have someone send them here they could use some reading for sure. Idiots abound.

I live in the same county that they shoot this show at. Big article in the paper and everything. Sang goes for a buttload of cash to the right buyer but you have to fill out forms and such. That show is total bull. Heard it from the family's of the guys that star in it.

Had a friend once back in the 80's always wanted to get a 50 croaker sack full of mari jane seed and throw onto the river while at flood stage to generate a new type of Sang for the flatwoods scattered to hell and back. Most I think he ever saved up was a crown royal bag full. Couldnt smoke enough, work, and buy enough munchies to get a 50lb bag!

Gonna check in the spring, but I think I got that stuff growin' all in the woods around my house. Guess I better start settin' up booby traps so nobody makes off with it. Maybe do some of them viet cong style pungie pits - that'll learn 'em a lesson.
