It is pretty easy to tell who the target demographic is by simply looking at the vendor's website.

Please leave Canada out of this. We don't need the attention.

Right now Canada is not dealing with the likes of a TTB

Hate to see someone in Canada trying to circumvent the US laws to make a buck and bring the heat to Canada
IMHO

I hope the HDA succeeds in the US because I imagine Canada would be next.

LOL - you dont think that happens now ???

It is irrelevant - owning a still is illegal in Canada ... read the Excise Act - you can say you are making water, etc, etc, but ANY part of a still is controlled by the act. You cannot even have mash/wash (yes officer, I am making a sugar beer)

I really do not think it going to Canada and coming back is going to cause issues - the CBSA and Exise officers really wont care as it is not staying in Canada

Do what you will but posting open forum that you want to circumvent the law that is most definitely read but TTB and against rules is not very wise.

You don't think TTB would contact their Canadian counterparts?
Having Canadian official use up there stretched budget and save theirs?

What you are proposing could get you, the manuf is hot water plus bring a bad spot light to the hobby which is undesirable for all sides except the officials which could use it against all hobbyists in North America and even abroad.

My stance on the subject is that we need to make it known that we've dug in our heels and are going to do this whether the federal government likes it or not, plain and simple... That seems to be the only way the government releases some of its overbearing grip on the citizens whose collective will they are elected to uphold and protect... They are elected to do what we the people want, not what they want... Repression and persecution never works for very long, as we see daily in foreign countries on the news...

:!: :!:

What just blows my mind is that pot is rapidly becoming legal in so many States. People are blazing up giant bongs in Colorado and I guess Washington State now, yet the Feds worry about adult hobbyists making a few liters of hooch in their own home for private consumption.

Follow the $$. As soon as the weed industry gets more firmly established, the Fed will shove their sticky fingers into the process, and the tax bux will flow to DC to be wasted.

If there was a way to pay a tax per liter of ethanol produced for private consumption, and pursue this art without fear of a raid, I'd strongly consider it, if it wasn't just nuts, like $8/liter. I would find 50 cents per liter of 95% acceptable, if it made it legal.

You got it, alright

Pot becoming legal = new thing to tax
Home distilling becoming legal = loss of tax

Prohibition only ended because the government couldn't do without the tax revenue.
Easiest way to avoid being on a TTB list is to not purchase a boiler, full column, or condensor from a retailer. Build your own.

I've grown tired of the fictitious pissing and moaning about the loss of tax revenues...!!! Rather than piss and moan, why not figure out how to more wisely spend the tax dollars that are being wasted...??? That right there is the real fix...!!! It's not even a political thing, it's common sense... Figure out how to do more with less, just like the overtaxed population... New Zealand is a working example of how legalizing home distillation doesn't have one bit of effect on tax revenues... So it must be blatant greed - or stupidity... I'm leaning towards the latter of the two...

That's what they thought about beer and wine untill they allowed it again and boom! New industry developed from small time brewers. It's just an out dated law that I don't think many politicians are concerned about so we suffer from it. Law has trouble keeping up with the times

Not a shot - here is how it goes - a corporation in Canada imports stills under license. Then that corporation exports them to the US.
The CBSA will have not one interest in the stills leaving Canada. The onus is then on the TTB to intercept them at the border. Has nothing what so ever to do with the CBSA. Since the Canadian laws do not require corporations selling stills to keep the records of where they went, and *IF* the importation into Canada is not illegal (and there are shipments crossing the border according the MileHi), then the TTB has 1) no right to ask and 2) no ability to get info even if their request is entertained by the CBSA (which it wont)

Dunno about CBSA stretched budgets ... but maybe the HST on imports can be used to help them  I really doubt they would care.

US Manufacturers would not get in any trouble - it is already legal to make and sell a still, and if sellers in the US can import them from China, I bet they can get them from Canada.

Would it not be funny for the TTB to get "7,821 stills sent in 2015 to Bob and Doug Mackenzie" ... lol

Point is, there is no concern I can see ... but a possible way to get around the TTB recording requirement ... I would like one of those 5 window flutes if it works :)

Also realize that, like in Canada, the production of weed is becoming a big business ... lots of investment, control, tax generation ... then they sell the product and tax it. They have full control now on the entire supply chain ...

With home distilling, they make a few bucks on the tax from the sale of the still, even less on the sale of ingredients (most will claim farm tax exemptions if applicable), and in turn, it will just reduce the tax revenue from the commercial likker.

Plus, weed will grow a lot faster than home distilling ... look at the 2 states that now sell it ...

woodshed wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2013 7:26 pm You really have nothing to worry about. Stills or parts for such can and are used for a variety of reasons other than the production of likker. Your post here asking that question is just as traceable to the feds as buying a fitting from an online company. IP served by the feds to show your address. Anyone who thinks they are truly under the radar on this site are fooling themselves. Our government can track anyone at anytime by their posts online. Believing they can't is just dumb.
Privacy in America is a thing of the past. And that's a fact. If they really cared about the activities here this site would no longer exist. And most of ya'll would be in jail.
This so called illegal activity is sooooo far down the totem pole the feds are not gonna waste time tracking you down. It just isn't worth it.
Think about it like this. If you were borrowing money on a daily basis from a couple of wealthy neighbors to keep your household above water would you really be concerned about the guy down the street makin something in his basement that kept him mellow and not in a mood to walk down the street and kick your ass cause you can't pay your own bills? Doubt it.
Bottom line is the feds really don't care about someone makin likker for their own use. They just don't want you selling it without them getting their cut. The law is written the way it is to keep every shiner from feeling like they can sell out the back door. The law creates the fear, the fear controls the masses. Every government on the planet uses one form or another of oppression to control the masses. Ours is just more subtle than most.
The man has a point.... Do I feel bad about my mh purchase?!?!? Come pry it from my cold dead hands! Dont tread on me rip dony jackson! Vietnam medivac door gunner and fellow shine sipper
You have two ears and one mouth for a reason....
