24 HR Turbo yeast.....

Post by Captb »

Noo B question, I am making a batch of sugar wash using 24 hour turbo yeast to run a sacrificial first run in a new still, All has been mixed according to instructions on pkg. I set up a blow off tube in a jar of water it has been aggressively bubbling now for about 40 hrs my question is should I let it go till no bubbles at all? When it is done do I need to clear it or just siphon off all liquid avoiding dead yeast?

I know turbo yeast is a sore subject for the professionals offering great advise around here but this batch will be dumped and I didnt want to waste weeks waiting for a good recipe to finish

PS the bubbling has slowed but is still going

Thanks in advance

I would let it go until it stops.

BTW good recipes don't usually take weeks to finish. I would have just thrown some bread yeast in there.

Can you give me a run down on clearing it? I dont seem to find any posts on the topic, or just siphon off good liquid?

Just let it sit for a day or two after the ferment finishes. Most of the solids should settle to the bottom. Then rack it into your boiler.

You didn't say much about your recipe. How much sugar to water did you use. The turbo should be good up to 20 - 25 percent ABV, but even IT has it's limits. Use a hydrometer to check it (FG of 1.000 or less) or, if no hydromenter, taste it for dryness.

I followed the directions on the packet of yeast to a T. 13 lbs (6kg) Sugar 1 full packet of 24 hr yeast. Then I used a piece of tubing into a jar of water as a blow off tube and boy did it bubble for about 40 hours now, it is slowing a little but not much

Thanks Guys!
