Copper electrical wire
Safe - Not safe?
I'm talking about the uncoated ground wire.
My assumption is that electrical wire is made from high purity copper in the first place, the answer is yes safe but is it treated with anything I am not finding in searches that cleaning would not even fix?

+1 pfshine
I'd also recommend soaking the wire in vinegar before use.
Just out of curiosity, what is the wire for ?

Re: Copper electrical wire
I just remembered having to find a hook to get a scrubber out and got to thinking, dangerous I know, but if I could just attach the scrubber(s) to a wire and push them in, they just as easily could be removed.

Yeah, I've read at least one post from someone else about doing this successfully - it's a solid idea, go for it!

Re: Copper electrical wire
I just did the same thing, but instead of scrubbies I made a few coils in the wire and twisted the end down. Haven't tried them yet but I'll let ya know.

Re: Copper electrical wire
Here is what I did, made a few to check them out. Did not like the idea of sticking scrubbies up and trying to get them out. I haven't tried this out yet, but will let everyone know how they work!

Re: Copper electrical wire
I'm playing the idea of having 4 sections of copper mesh spaced apart. Kind of like how plates are configured, only removable for cleaning or changing. The wire would just run up the center of each to hold them in place. Not sure what effect if any it would make on final product but we'll see.

Re: Copper electrical wire
Go to the store and get one of these:
Remove the screw part and reinstall into the end of a 3' piece of 3/4" dowel with a little glue and Voila!
A handy dandy scrubbie remover.
What's nice is when you twist it in, the scrubbie narrows out and becomes very easy to remove.

I just grabbed one end and swung as hard as I could and let centripetal force do the rest.

Re: Copper electrical wire
I don't see the real point in wasting space between the mesh but experiment with it and let us know. I may be wrong on that. I am sure though that if your mesh is loose enough that it needs something besides friction to hold it in place, it is way too loose. When trying different configurations try packing it way tighter than you think you should. I think you will find this yields your best results.Haus6565 wrote:I'm playing the idea of having 4 sections of copper mesh spaced apart. When I used mesh for packing I preferred it over scrubbies because you could roll tight sections consistently.
To the original post, Bushman has a method of making copper packing using cooper welding cable, which is fine stranded electrical wire. I haven't used this method but it seems like it would make a good dense copper packing.

So I'm running some sweet feed today. Using the copper wire raccoon pecker bone. Works great!

Is that can with the worm in it made outta copper? If so where did you ever find something like that? Or is it just the light? I like the raccoons pecker, good idea.

Yes the flake stand is all copper. The entire unit is from whiskystills.

Man just use HCL of spirits of salt and it will clean up so fast you don't know what happened but rinse thoroughly

Most here aren't well versed at working with such caustic solvents so your advice, while perhaps worthy for you, may not be the best for the general public... That's assuming that you are referring to Hydrochloric/Muriatic acid... We understand that you are new, and apparently eager to help, but we strive to keep members safe... Don't be trying to solve every members problems in your first 24 hours here... You should be doing research so you know how we roll...cna8065 wrote:Man just use HCL of spirits of salt and it will clean up so fast you don't know what happened but rinse thoroughly

Re: Copper electrical wire
I missed this thread when it first came out last year but I believe I was the first to post how to use electrical wire for mesh. It was not my original idea it came from Mash Rookie but I did make a tutorial on it.
http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 17&t=47650
Since making the tutorial I did add more packing thus I believe my original size should be increased.
