A week ago my back started hurting again- it hurts all the time but this is different- anybody that's ever had a herniated disk knows the pain I mean.so I went to the hospital and they did an MRI.Surprise!!! Two large herniated disks.told me ill need surgery on both in the next 6 months. F$%k me!

Same for me. No surgery yet. Im putting it off as long as possible as long as im still mobile. I have the first three disks above my tailbone herniated. Lovely burning in my ass and tingling in my foot. Doc gave up on cortisone after one injection. Said its a waste of time. Too much jumping down from trucks and tractors in my younger days.

Good luck and get well.

I feel you pain , Bro . Ask any of the guys that attended Jedfest what a 65yo with uncorrected back injuries looks like . I got a portable TENS unit that does help a bit . Forgot to take it to Jedfest .

My was the worst back in april. Ortho surgeon said the body will absorb the herniated part away from the nerve in time, so I toughed it out. Took a good 5 months for the leg pain to go away. I know what you mean. I gotta always be doing something. Its still just a matter of time till it comes back.

I feel for you about the surgery
Damned if you do and damed if you don't have it.
Seems that all us old guys that ever did any real work have bad backs. Good luck and hope you get relief.

Yup on both points . The most embarrassing aspect of it is when you stand there supporting yourself on a cane while you tell some young pup what you 'used to be able to do'. They find it boring

I'm getting close Butch. My knees have been giving me fits the last few months. And I hate it when some youngster wants to 'help' me up. Damit! I don't need no help! :problem:

JB,

I too have back problems, something that has helped me is a product called MSM. You can buy it in pill form at any pharmacy, or if you can do as I did, I went to the feed store and bought a pound tub for about $10, 99% pure. Then go get some glucosamine pills at the pharmacy. I take a juice glass and put a baby spoon full in warm water and it dissolves, then chug it and chase it with more water as you take the glucosamine. I do that 2-3 times a day and after about 3-4 days my back is in pretty good shape again. I blew a disc about 20 years ago, spent 30 days straight with a chiropractor and suffered for the better part of the next 10 years. Old rancher friend of mine turned me onto it, these last 10 years been pretty good. Just trying to pass it on, don't know if it'll help but I've used it on me, old stove up dog, and a crippled mare, all 3 did better. For what it's worth.

That's the MOST embarrassing part . The bright side of it is that there are still caring young folks about .
