How to connect Keg boiler to riser??

Post by cat herder »

I see lots of builds that use a keg as a boiler. I've found a design that is simple enough that I can build it: http://homedistiller.org/forum/download ... p?id=12153, but I haven't found any description about how to connect a keg to a riser. My understanding is that I'll need to clamp it somehow. What do others use? Thanks for the pointers.

Two inch tri clover flange....eBay's loaded with the things, anywhere 'tween two and five bucks. You'll need some good flux an a stick of silver solder. It takes a spell to get everything cleaned and then hot enough to join, just be patient. Have a shot first....helps with the shakey hands.
Patience....the early bird get's the worm, but the second rat get's the cheese.

Took about 30 seconds to find the answer.

Yet another reason to do ample research before attempting practical application... The Tri-clamp method has been discussed extensively so it's virtually impossible to overlook if you do enough research into the theories and fundamentals, and peruse the builds of other members... :ewink:

Take your column and shove it down in there. Now take a BFH and beat it into submission. Making it bend to your will. Now you have a good connection.

Pretty good idea, does that seal well? Can it pass a mirror test?

On my first build I went with this the set up in the following link: It's easy strong but the downside is it is a bit more expensive.

My current build on a 4" column I cut a larger hole and welded a 4" ferrule, lot more work but easier to clean.

Trying to understand why you didn't just buy a ferrule and a clamp.

Ferrules weren't as common back in the stone ages. This kit was high tech back then. Lol

I have to agree now that I know that the same thing can be built for a handful of scratch.

If using 2 inch copper go with type M and the ferrule will slip right in. No BFH required.
