Hey All!

Post by Devils Nose »

Hope everyone's doing alright. I'm here in East Tennessee and have been driving my traditional pot still over a propane burner for a minute now. It's smallish with a traditional copper worm, but it's done me well for a while.

It was actually here at HD that I got my start (but only as a lurker) and have been running a sour mash ever since. Found in the Tried and True area, the UJSSM was a good introduction for me to distilling. The output from that recipe and my little still have developed a bit of a local fanbase here. Many thanks to all of you that have contributed to and made this such a tremendous resource to hobby distillers.

I finally decided that I'd like to graduate into something a bit more sophisticated and have been looking into building a boiler and column. I've not yet decided fully on size and style. Most of my research eventually leads me back to posts here at HD so I figured I might as well finally create an account. Now I'm off to fulfill that reading requirement I keep hearing about. Already have Cranky's spoon feeding post bookmarked.

Wish me luck!

Welcome aboard Devils Nose.

Sounds like you’re committed to doing the hard yards in research, so I don’t reckon you’ll need much in the way of luck, just a good dose of patience…and maybe a couple of fingers of that UJ when the eyes start to bleed

Have fun & stay safe.

Good luck, and welcome.

Sounds like you are on your way. There's a lot to learn by running the same recipe over and over, as it really helps highlight what small changes to process have an impact on the product. It's a good start, and there's lots more to learn.

Welcome from another (upper) East Tennesseean. I started with a simple pot still 3+ years ago and now have a 2" CCVM for neutral and a 4" 3 plate flute for whiskey and rum. I still use the pot still for Single malts and mixed malted/unmalted barley whiskies.

You'll find that this place is a wealth of information if you make the Google Search your friend.

Thanks for the welcome.

I hope to one day be comfortable enough to give back with some advice of my own.

Be safe!
