Need for second run?

Post by moose »

Well, I finally got my valve set up to control the takeoff rate for a second run (thanks to this forum on where to find it :D )!

I've been collecting strip runs into a carbouy from all of the early attempts...learning as I went, but couldn't turn my collection rate down far enough for the second run. I had about 3 gal and marked the side of the carbouy before diluting. I was pretty conservative on the strip runs...tossing a good bit of early product (heads and maybe some hearts), and quit collecting once I couldn't hold the temp in the mid to climbing to upper 80s.

My question..to my surprise...I was still in the low 80's when I collected the second run up to the line I marked previously???

Does that mean my stripping run was sufficient? Tasted good to this novice palate, (Gerber in a Nixon/Stone)...Just thought I'd toss this out for comment!

Gerber is gonna be pretty clean on the first distillation through a Nixon Stone offset valved reflux... Perhaps just a bit cleaner after a second pass... I sometimes run mine through my LM column twice, especially if I used the run for testing different configurations...

Thanks rad, Gerber is now the only wash I'm using, and I think I'll keep doing two runs just for the practice and fine tuning. (great receipe btw!)
