Hey guys new to the site just messing around trying to make some shine. I first rigged up alittle still at home using a pressure cooker, but am thinking of trying to use a water distiller for distilling my mash. I already have the water distiller and dont use it for anything so I was wondering if there is away I can use it for alcohol.
I have hear there is a issue with the temp being hotter then the desired temp for alcohol aswell as the fan may not cool the vapor well enough, just curious if it can work for it or if I can modify it in order to use it.
anyway any information would be appreciated thanks guys.

yes but no, yes they can be modified , but no they don't work that well, sort of like taking bicycle to a motocross.

haha, well I have one that I have nothing better to use it for. Wouldnt mind giving it a go with it. What do you have to do inorder to modify them?
Just put some sort of rheostat in line for the heater?
Then further down the road when I get a chance I will build a still that works better. also looking for some dummy proof plans for a decent still if anyone has some, I made one already with a pressure cooker and some coiled copper line but didnt care for it all that much, my pressure cooker has a safety valve so you cant open the lid when its underpressure but as the pressure vents down the copper line with the alcohol vapour it doesnt cause enough pressure for the valve to engage all the way causing alot of vapor to come out of there.
After the water distiller is modified what is it lacking that causes it to not be the best for distilling alcohol?
bare with me pretty new to the hobby
thanks guys.

Re: Water Distiller for shine?
I got a water distiller because my dad had to use distiller water in a nebulizer, its a medical thing.
I use it to make water to add to my goodies so I don't have off tastes or chemical traces in the finished product.

Daddy used, to say " Any landing you can walk away from is a good one"

crash_cohen, there are several topics related to "air still" type distillers... Do a site search for "air still"... The main modifications are eliminating all plastic and rubber from the vapor path and plugging the chlorine vent hole if your model has one... It all depends on the make and model of the unit...
Some units have a heat control while others run at full power throughout the run... They can be modified to use a controller by bypassing the internal controller, or used with a controller if there is no power regulation...

perfect thank you, the one have does not have a clourine vent, also doesnt seem to have any rubber or plastic parts, only downside I can see is I cant adjust the temp...but I bought a rheostat switch today so with any luck that should be all I need.
thanks.
thanks.
