Welcome aboard. Lots of good rum recipes here.

Hi eyepatch!
I'm brand new here as well, and also favor the flavors of rum. whoa! just try to say favor the flavors of rum 3 times fast after drinking a few rum cocktails.
Do you have a favorite brand named rum that you like or would like to try and copy? I have dreams of one day being able to make a nice Demerara rum, and maybe a dark rum like goslings Black Seal. I loves me some Dark and Stormys made with my own ginger beer and a little fresh squeezed lime.

Welcome, eyepatch...

You're being steered in the right direction... While you may understand the "concept" it sounds like you're falling a bit short on the "theory"... Don't move forward until you have done a fair amount of research here in the forums as well as on the parent site... Keep in mind that the parent site is a bit dated and some of the information has been dis-proven or improved upon over the years... When you have doubts or find conflicting information, come here and ask for clarification...

Good luck...

Sounds real good. IMO Gosling's is long on the nose and color. But short on body. A lttle too contrived I recon.

Pompero would have been my rum of chouce before moving away from commercial likker.

Four or five generations in and things are getting,,,,,,,,,heavenly.

Thats a Gosling's bottle, but I assure you that is not their product in the bottle.

mmmm your rum looks mighty good.
You know I always forget about Ron Pampero. I have a couple bottles under the bar, but they are hiding out in their little leather sacks. I should take themout of the bag and move them up to the front, where they'll do more for me than collect dust.

3 to 4 shots, a spoon full of sugar, squeeze a lime wedge

Shake to mix sugar, then add a cube or two and shake to chill.

Served martini style.

Two of those and things start getting good.

We just happen to have some limes and I guess I can find some sugar and rum somewhere around the place.

Guess what I'll be drinking tonight?
