I've just put down the 25L version of birdwatchers sugar wash. Stupidly, and without thinking, I filled the whole carbouy, ingredients and all, with cold tap water!
My mind has been elswhere all day. I've noticed lot of un disolved sugar at the bottom, obviously. Should I tip out and run a fresh wash?? I'm thinking it will be too cold to start, and not have all the sugar available.
Rather embarrasing indeed.

decant by tipping out the liquid from the top into another fermenter, then pour the sugar slop into a pot with a bit more water and dissolve it over the stove. too easy.

Take a kettle from the kitchen, "bout 6-8 liters and scoop it full of some of your wash, boil it, and add it back to the carboy.
It won't be enough to hurt anything, just enough to warm up your 17-19 liters to get the sugar to disolve. Add more yeast if it doesn't take off in a day or so, but it should be fine.

Be thankful that this was simply a wash and not a distillation run... We need to play close attention to detail every step of the way throughout the entire process, from beginning to finish...Fermentanator wrote:My mind has been elsewhere all day.
It should work out fine in the end...
