Some basic questions

Post by will12 »

Hi,

1) When brewing (fermenting) do you really need a fish tank heater or not, the brew has to be between about 22-30 deg right otherwise it will just not ferment, my rooms are usually pretty warm not sure the extact temp though, if so is it fine to just sterilize the casing of the heater?

2) Is it ok during fermenting to open the lid and check the temp or will this ruin the mash, i.e the air and contaminants will get in?

3) I thought i would just make alchol from household sugar + champagne yeast + water and then add a bottled flavour to it like rum flavour, why do i not see anyone on the forum using thee basic ingredients, or do they?

4) during distillation should you heat to 64.7-70(or so) deg first for a while to remove any methanol as that is it's boiling point all guides i see seem to say heat to 78-80deg right away.

5) Do the still components need to be sterilized like the fermentation parts do?

thanks

Judging by your questions, you need to do a lot more reading, firstly read the parent site, then go to the new distillers lounge, after reading these sections all of your current questions will be answered.

I will but could you still answer these please, this will add to my knowledge. I don't think these questions are unreasonable they just aren't covered in the guides i've read.

We do not spoonfeed when the information is readably available.

They may not have been in the guides that you allege to have read, but they are all covered in this forum. Clearly, the forum isn't one of the guides you read, so equally clearly the answer is to do as old dog suggested.

I am in total agreement that this type of question should not have to be answered over and over again for every beginner who doesn't want to to adequate research prior to stepping into this hobby... I see those several questions as merely the tip of the iceberg and relying on spoon-feeding will only serve as an excuse to not do the required research from the start...

will12, doing your research will actually help answer many questions you haven't even thought of yet... We know the answers are out there because we spend a lot of time doing our own research prior to answering many of the questions posted in these forums... There is no reason why anyone should expect us to find the answers and spoon feed them back out when we aren't the ones wanting the answers... Even if we think we know the answers spot on most of us still verify those answers just to make sure we don't miss any details because inaccurate or partial answers can be worse than no answers at all... Not to mention the fact that such time could be better spent answering more complex questions...

And don't forget that there is a Q&A with Mentors section here in these forums...

What are you playing at will? You got answers here and next thing you post this. http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 6#p6834566

Did you do any research at all before posting it. I mean research not fucking about with shit on youtube?

If you want to learn anything at all you have to do some work. We will not spoonfeed someone who is too lazy to do some real research. Making good, clean, safe etho is far from rocket science, but YOU have to make some effort or you can take the youtube lazy wanker method and make you and any other bugger who is stupid enough to drink it very sick.

You will not get any help on making poison from this forum. I hope I make myself clear.

By the way, you probably haven't read the rules about this forum, especially rule 1? May I suggest that you do.
