Black Raspberry Vodka

Post by Braz »

Well, I just had to try this. I have lots of wild black raspberry brambles around my property and they fruit like crazy in late spring so I decided to try to make black raspberry vodka. Here's what I did.

1 pint of black raspberries in a 1 Qt. jar - muddle the fruit slightly
add 1/4 cup sugar
fill 3/4 full with drinking proof neutral spirits (90 proof, in my case)
put in refrigerator for a few days - shake daily
after a few days strain off the liquid and add enough neutral spirits to make a quart or so of finished product.

The end result is a drink with a nice, light berry flavor without being fruit juicy sweet. I am drinking it on the rocks with a bit of club soda and it is a lovely thing to sip on a hot summer day.

And to think I made it all by myself. :D

Something to be said for that Braz. Think I'll go in the freezer and pull out some black berries gifted about 2 months ago and make up a quart in your honor. Enjoy my friend. Blanik on the other hand will head outdoors and crawl under his house and pull out some 10 year old concoction and make us all jealous.

Talking about that, I was poking around there yesterday and came across the fig likker I made just a few months back and thought it was absolute shit. In just a couple of months of undisturbed dark it has actually improved immensely. A distinct fig taste but not as figgy as before and has begun to mellow out. Should be nice in a year or two.

I hear ya blanik. I have one that's a couple of years on now and it's as good as a decent port. Made with dried mission figs, homemade red wine and homemade brandy. I love it on its own or drizzled over a scoop of vanilla ice cream :) bd.

Poured off the "soak" liquor that's been on black berries for about a month. A very nice berry flavor. Added the sugar to the pulp and look forward to adding it back. Will do this one again, and again, and . . . . I got quite a bit of black berries in the freezer.
