Graham condenser sizing

Post by kenfyoozed »

How do you go about sizing a graham condenser? It seems most are using 3-4" pipe as the housing, but can you go smaller? What is the determining factor, the size of the inner coil? Also could you go for a smaller housing and stretch out the length?

The diameter of a Graham condenser is governed by the size of the coil for vapor condensation.

Yes it would then be a Leibig condenser.

Recon there are some round here that likes the math and can figger such things.

I was trying to find something to do with the remainder of some 4". I wanted my condenser to kinda match my tower.

Also wanted something that could not be overwelmed with a hobby heat source.

By contrast, Rednose put together an "egg" sized product condenser for his Bok.

2" jacket with a 3/8 coil alah liebig style would offer a goodly amount of surface area.

There is a condenser calculator on the parent site that can help in calculating the required size of liebigs and worms... A Graham condenser is merely a spiraled liebig so use that option and you'll get pretty close on size requirements...
