Greetings from New England

Post by GreatSpirits »

Hi all. By way of introduction:
I am in the Northeast and am very much a newbie to home brewing of anything. I am not so new to sipping, tasting and drinking. :-) My only experience with home brew is a wine kit that is currently fermenting.

I have been interested in home brew and distillation for many years but have not had the opportunity to pursue this hobby and craft until the present. Speaking of presents, my bride bought a Turbo 500 as a gift for me. I know from reading this forum that the preferred method is to build or buy a home made still but I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth! So for the time being, the T500 it is. Thanks to this forum, my first recipe will be WPOSW and not a turbo.

I like nice vodka, scotch, whiskey, red wine. Hell, to be honest, I like most all of it as long as the quality is good! Neutral spirits seemed like a good place to start as we both like high quality vodka on the rocks.

The information I have (still very limited) has been gleaned from this terrific forum and some other sites. I appreciate and am thankful for all the work that the experienced members contribute!
I am looking forward with excitement and some trepidation to this journey of distillation.
Thanks again for the forum!!!!!

Greetings, GreatSpirits...

The Turbo 500 is a nice starting point, especially if it was received as a gift... Your new wife sounds like a keeper... Continue to do plenty of research and ask questions along the way... We'll be here to guide you along...

Good luck...

Welcome to the forum! There are some great reading material on preparing your wash/mash in the tried and true section, also you should read up on cleaning your still (not sure how the commercial still are cleaned prior to sending them out). Also spend some time reading up on making cuts, nothing worse than having a great wash and to ruin it by not doing the proper separations: D Last word of advice is to read up on safety :D Enjoy your new hobby :!:
