Newby in Vegas

Post by VegasHotWheeler »

Ran across your forum while researching distilling.
I find the whole process very fascinating.
My Grandfather was a Moonshiner and spent many years in the Oklahoma State Penitentiary for it.
I dont quite understand what makes distilling acohol so punishable compared to brewing beer and making wine!
Just reading and soaking in the info and who knows one day may have to follow in Grandpas footprints and make my own
Not really a drinker, but on occasion like to partake in the spirits, and would be cool to sit and sip and say I made this.

Welcome aboard.

What makes it illegal is mostly myths and lies, it also use to be profitable and sometimes still is.

Welcome:

The major issue was over taxes. Booze has been a funding mainstay for Federal, State and Local governments for generations. Moonshiners didn't pay taxes. In fact, one of the major reasons to end of Prohibition was to get the tax revenue started back up.

Over half of the purchase price of a bottle of whiskey goes to taxes.
