Desert Eagle 50AE
Anyone here got one? Thoughts/ experiences with one? I got the itch to buy a new gun, and got my sights on one. I havent ever shot one, just watched the videos on youtube of people getting there bean slapped by them. Just gotta say, makes me want one more. For hunting and novelty purposes... If there are any.

The Smith & Wesson 500 magnum is quite the weapon also.

Re: Desert Eagle 50AE
I ordered one in for a guy in 357 mag, and it weighs a ton loaded. Depends on what you're doing with it, this thing is not a carry friendly weapon. If you are hiking or doing a lot of walking you'll want a trailer for it. The 50 ain't gonna be any lighter.
Armageddon was yesterday. Today we have a serious problem.

Re: Desert Eagle 50AE
I have Desert Eagle in 44 mag. Heavy as hell but that helps a lot with recoil. Grips are pretty big so for me it's definitely a two handed gun. Sites are not that accurate for elevation so I had to do some modification. If I had to do it over I wouldn't buy the gun.
My brother has a S&W 500 mag. SWEET gun. Definitely way better than the Desert Eagle. Keep a loose arm though and let the recoil take it over your head. He also has a Ruger 480 and a Judge. These are not handguns for the weak at heart but they are definitely way too much fun! My pick, hands down, is the Ruger 480 if ya want to go BIG. Personally, I got a SS Smith 44 mag that'll do all I need a handgun to do.

Re: Desert Eagle 50AE
Thought about the s&w 500. I have held one, I know they are heavy. Deffinately will help with recoil. I know it has dovetail for scope mount. I want to hunt with it, just wondering, scope or not, if I could hit any thing with it. I dont plan on using it as a carry weapon. Hell, like the guy at the gun shop said.. Might as well buy 2. One for each hip. So a guy dont walk crooked.
Spendy novelty weapon, none the less. Just something I have always thought about buying. Getting close to the day. Ruger 480? Might have to check that out.

muley, go to the range and rent/shoot em first. You might find just getting a hand on one now and again is all the novelty you need...without owning them. At the very least..give you a hands on comparo so you can make up your mind which one fits you best.

What you plannin on huntin MuleKicker, elephant? HA!
I think that you'll find both the S&W 500 and the Ruger 480 plenty accurate. I've just shot them with iron sites but could do pretty good out to around 75 yds. I'd think with a scope you'd be set out to 125 yds. Have to have some damn good rings though, the kick is ferocious and will throw the gun up over your head, ya definitely can't stiff arm those babies. They are both excellent handguns.

+1 - I would buy this over a desert eagle any day of the week, if the goal was hand cannon.Bayou-Ruler wrote:The Smith & Wesson 500 magnum is quite the weapon also.
The only thing that the DE has going for it over the S&W 500 is it looks cooler.

Re: Desert Eagle 50AE
Desert eagles are a favourite in the movies becos of their looks. 50AE is the biggest semi-auto stomper for sure; but no way will you fire more than one accurate shot quicker than a bolt-action rifle/shotgun or a single-action revolver.
I would choose a rifle, 12G Slug, then a revolver. Semi-auto pistols are the best in .45ACP!

That video is toooo funny Usge, Just to chime in I have had a Ruger 44 Super Redhawk for years with just iron sigts, it will put a deer down with ease, it's all the hand gun I'll ever need or want. Hell if ya wanta go big get one of them hand held rocket launchers now that would be the shit.
Sometimes I wonder why is that Frisbee getting bigger......and then it hits me.

Re: Desert Eagle 50AE
FMH - Ruger makes a great handgun, and I've always thought the Bisley was a wonderful design and very hand and recoil friendly, though I have never had the opportunity to shoot one. I'm a big fan of the 44 mag. I'm partial to low bullet weight for caliber. I like 180gn for the 44 and 125gn for the 357. Easier recoil, flatter trajectory, still plenty of knock down and penetration.

Big R,
180 grain Sierras out of the 44 in front of a healthy load of 2400 will flat out ruin a deer's day.
Just for shits & giggles this year I'm gonna run 300 grain XTPs. Maybe use H 110
Love my Super Blackhawks over the years but this is my first Bisley hunter.

IMI made Desert Eagles in Israel and some local pro security guards really do carry them. Usually in a shoulder holster. They consider it a close up one shot stopper in every respect. At the least everyone will be deaf after an encounter!

overkill in my opinion, for novelty only, unless you are worried about being attacked by bears when checkin your still in your woodsy hideaway.DAD300 wrote:IMI made Desert Eagles in Israel and some local pro security guards really do carry them. Kimber 45 with hydroshock rounds, nice and controlled, super accurate, dead meat on one shot...
Ruger is nice too, just bought the wife a sr9 9mm, got me a .223 with a nice scope...super fun to shoot. not a one shot wonder though, unless you head shot it.
now i am 7 rifles and two pistols deep in guns, its an addiction, much like stillin!
I am for the aformentioned suggestion, rent it, shoot it, if you still gotta have it, go for it. I actually enjoy my lower caliber rifles more now. The shotgun and the socom 16 308 winchester barely even get shot.

Re: Desert Eagle 50AE
Ahhhhhh Shit....... So I was talkin to a family member about possibly wanting a desert eagle... A few days later a dude shows up at my shop, wanting to know if I was interested in one. Hmmm.... Said he heard it through the grape vine.. I ended up getting it, looks like new... As most folks dont shoot them much (for obvious reasons
). The best part was, it came with a kick ass holster, and....... ***drum roll please**** About 600 rounds of hollowpoint ammo..... OHHHH YEAH!!!! I figger that ammo is worth about 800 bucks. Got the whole package for 1200. Gonna shoot the bitch tomorrow.
I will report back on my findings.

Or, for those times when you absolutely positively have to obliterate your target with a single shot, choose the JDJ .950... Nothing says "Hey, Honey, I'm home!" like a half pound projectile lumbering along at 2,200 feet per second and hitting with with 38,685 foot pounds of energy...
I was into guns, scopes, and silencers, in a big way years ago but backed away and sold everything off when my kids came along...

Re: Desert Eagle 50AE
Shit. I have to say, I like it. Quite impressive. 6" barrel, I shot a couple test shots into a log to get the feel for it. Then I shot 6 shots 60 yds to my target. 3 / 6 where in a pie plate. Normally, I would say that aint nothin to write home about. But for my first time shooting this gun, 60 yds with a pistol is pretty damn good Id say. Does not kick as horrible as some folks say, yes you have to hold on. But it is completely manageable. Im gonna shoot a deer with it in a couple weeks.
Holy shit shinner, what the hell you need that thing for... Wait a minute? Thats a dumb question. Cool.
I always wanted to do the 1000yd shot. Might be kinda fun for prairie dogs too.

44 mag. barrel and magazines are a drop-in conversion for your frame coupled with reloading and shooting commercially cast bullets would give you a relatively cheaper shooting experience albeit without the 50AE cool factor.
Good luck this deer season.

Re: Desert Eagle 50AE
Did some shooting today. After months of coaxing, got my wife to bark a couple rounds off with the 50AE. Yup, a couple she got a pretty good kick out of the first round and had to do it again. Pretty hard to get her to do it after watching all those utoobe videos of people getting smacked in the face. Something about chicks and big guns....mmmmmmmm
