It should be at least as criminal to report information as badly as that......It is one thing to know better and incorrectly report....But that article leaves ya with the impression that they don't know shit about what they are talking about,,,,the law and the reporting.

$100 per pint; $800 per gallon! Wow. Must be some damn good likker. But.... if he was selling he got exactly what he deserved.

It is not the matter, nor, the space between the matter,

The way they were talking about the mesh and a dangerous cook, I was thinking they were reporting on a meth lab! Maybe I've been watching too much breaking bad...

Politics or Moonshine, just shows how stupid the media people are. Did you see any thing looking dangerous in the set up? Who the hell would buy 1 pint of moonshine for $100?

Bottom line if he's selling he deserves to get busted. But man at least tell the s tory straight.

Nobody "deserves" to get busted. Don't be so stupid.
And if you can use your eyes they will tell you that if that guy was selling, it was probably to one other person.
I mean, how are you going to run a "moonshine operation" out of two 40 liter kegs?

"Constable Taylor tells KETK that people have died from drinking Moonshine before because of the way some choose to cook it. Some people run the water coolant through a radiator!"

WHAT, A RADIATOR !!!

you would think these crims would just be letting it run down the drain with the profits he's making.... no wonder people are dying ?

Not again... This site is intended to promote home distillation at the hobby scale for personal consumption... When we have idiots getting busted for selling it makes all of us look bad and sets back our efforts to prove that we want distilling for personal consumption to be decriminalized... It might sound far fetched to think that governments would see things our way but stranger things have happened... Our goal is to show that this hobby can be practiced safely and without breaking laws other than the actual act of distilling alcohol... We don't want all crimes decriminalized, just the act of distilling alcohol... And people wonder why we harp on new members to follow The Rules We Live By because we don't want any of them working against our goal...

This is no different than some thug stealing a gun and killing someone, making for tougher gun laws which in turn causes it to be harder for honest folks to buy and own guns... Stealing a gun and killing someone versus stealing a keg and selling distilled spirits... I haven't stolen any of my equipment and I don't sell my spirits which, at least in my eyes, is altogether different...

With that argument making it all together is just as big a crime as killing someone so home distillers should all go to prison. Remember his crime is distilling without a license and not paying taxes on distilled spirits before you make ridiculous wild statements about someone selling a little likker.

Not really... I was referring to the narrow minded views of the general public... Perhaps I didn't clarify that point... Take what I said as the opinion of the general public who is less educated in our hobby... They are easily swayed by the slightest bad news without searching for the real truth... Hence one bit of bad news about someone selling or making untaxed spirits makes every aspect bad... Then think along the lines of guns don't kill people, people kill people... So I should be able to own and shoot a gun or own and run a still just as long is I don't shoot anyone or sell my spirits...

Don't ever consider what you don't understand as ridiculous statements as that might imply ignorance, mistakenly or not... Either that or that you're just looking for an argument for the sake of arguing...

At any rate, if you get caught selling your "personal consumption" spirits don't come crying to me when your ass ends up in jail... But I would be sympathetic and supportive if someone gets busted when complying with the "personal consumption" aspect...

Hey rad, I was just giving my opinion of what I did think as it read was an ignorant statement. Since you explained you intended a different meaning to what the post said I can agree to your point.

As far as looking for an argument you can always assume that is not my intention. Arguing on an internet forum to someone you do not know has never made sense to me. You can never read a persons actual intentions. Not to mention you can't punch anyone in the mouth if you actually get mad. :silent: I have been wanting to use that smiley.

I think, rad, that while you speak reason, you also might have an inflated idea of the interest that people take in small scale distillation. The guy in this instance was obviously extremely small scale; did you notic the numbered jars with ABV written on them? Something he could have learned to do on this very forum. "Making cuts". I'm sure he was a hobbyist who was ratted on because he keeps the company of unstable, chaotic people, or is perhaps chaotic and unstable himself.
Whatever the case, internet shrieking of the "he deserved to get busted" type is indicative of the unseemly human tendency to "kiss up, kick down", unfortunately all too often present on this forum.
The fact of the matter is that some misguided douchebag "sellin' likker" is extremely unlikely to have any effect on future legislation. Much more effective in that respect are the interests of Big Business, as well as the all too frequent stories from around the world of criminals re-purposing de-natured alcohol, methanol, or some other deadly poisonous chemical, and selling it as a drink.

It may make "us" look bad because:

If people getting busted for selling are running hobby sized operations than any sized operation should be suspect.
It gives the news more opportunities to spew bullshit propaganda about nonexistent dangers. They also villify us and characterize us as some sort of filthy blackmarket underworld goons.
It ties the idea of "moonshine" with underage consumption.

Just trying to think of what I can.

You make valid points. The problem with your argument is that the reason shouldn't matter. Debating the reason as to why you shouldn't sell liquor is just a gateway to people deciding that your revised reasoning is of no concern to them. "you'll get caught" and "It isn't worth it" are two phrases that have never worked on the masses. "You'll ruin it for everyone else" has different connotations. This kinda leads me to the whole "safe" materials list. While some brief contact may be harmless, it's just easier to flat out say "no". In summary, lets not force people with poor judgement to use their poor judgement.

I think people "deserve it" for involving people like you've described. I know plenty of chaotic and unstable individuals and I just keep my mouth shut. Occasionally I "get" stuff from a "friend" in Gerogia.. wink wink... If your friends are fucking morons than don't tell them anything. Same goes for family. Nobody will know or care to figure out if you really have these friends you claim to have. The worst thing that happened was someone asked if he could buy some next time and I said I'd just get him some for his birthday. No harm done.

I'm not down with your argument, astronomical, not in any way.
The reasons why are the basis of any constructive dialogue.
Unfortunately that is not a position that is universally endorsed by the powers-that-be on these forums, and these forums suffer as a result.
The bottom line is that if someone is too stupid to process the facts of the distilling process, the materials used, and the legislation governing its regulation, then perhaps this is not the best hobby for them.

Sure, rad, but what, it seems, is often being asked is that open discussion amongst the informed and intelligent be censored for the sake of the ignorant and stupid.
