voltage regulator for heat control
Can anyone tell me if this would work? Its a 3800w 0-220v voltage regulator light dimming speed temperature controller. It about half the price of the variable speed router and it already has a heat sink. Was thinking about getting this for my electric hot plate (1100w). I think this would be a better option than the router speed controller. Any input would be appreciated

There are a bunch of threads about them around here already. They will work.

So this will work as is? Simple as hooking up the cord and plugging it in. Do you think its better than a router speed controller

Re: voltage regulator for heat control
That unit is essentially the same as a router speed controller aside from the fact that it is lacking the snubber circuit, an additional resistor and capacitor (and sometimes an inductor coil), that inductive loads require...

you still need to bypass the thermostat in your hot plate.

Re: voltage regulator for heat control
You could do that, but it would be much safer to install it in a box. If you just attach the wires and run it that way, you will have the danger of exposed wires and electrical shock. There are many threads describing controller builds here on the forum - search and read.rehrlich wrote:So this will work as is? Simple as hooking up the cord and plugging it in. Re: voltage regulator for heat control
I am wanting to use this w/ a digital meter, fan and an on off switch all to control 1 220 volt heating element.
Is a schematic available or this build?

Yes there is. Search for SSR controller. Or google it. Easy to find
