So I tried a recipe someone had given me from "memory" and either I screwed it up royally, or the yeast were welfare yeast waiting for other yeast to do yeast things.
My OG was great, .080, 10 days later I was like hmm smells like it's doing good stuff, not gassing off much... I'll run it.
Well the "FG" was like -.010 from my OG and the hydro was coboruating the story..
So with 6.5g H2O
12lb cane sugar
1.5pk Red Star Yellow pk
BSG Yeasty nutes
a 1/3 TSP of Amlyse A/B
16Oz Red Lion Organic Raisons
2lb flaked corn
Why in 10 days did it just "chill".
Temp was a constant 80F
"Just yeast and sugar" No....

It erks the hell out of me that something so "simple" didn't do crap.
This was supposed to be for my future brother in laws wedding this weekend.
I'm just like WTF now.....

I'm confused by your notation...
SG was 1.080.
FG was 1.010.
Sounds like it's pretty much done to me. I'd have used more enzymes if you wanted to get any kind of decent conversion from the flaked corn though... maybe a tsp per gallon... especially as you weren't doing at high temperature.

Doesn't sound as simple to me as you seem to think... Never have the intention of starting out with something you are unfamiliar with because of your self-imposed timeframe and then be disappointed when things go sideways... You're too new at this to think everything will go like clockwork... What is your Plan B if this turns out like crap...??? The whole "It's the thought that counts!" goes out the window when someone takes a swig of swill and about wretches... Just giving you an honest reality check here...

+1 rad...There is a very old truism that came into being at the end of the era of the horse and buggy....If it doesn't go as you expected the first thing you should look for a "screw loose in the driver" ...
...take it or leave it...just me 2c's worth...KB

Re: "Just yeast and sugar" No....
I had tried to give myself a few extra days.... Didn't come out as I'd expected.
Can anyone link me a tried and true sugar recipe?
I do have additives on hand for the next time I try a similar recipe.
The person who gave it to me said "I've used this recipe I can't count how many times and it's always come out great, give yourself an extra few days in case you have a slow ferment".
Just kind of scratching my head on this...

Well, I could....but then you wouldn't learn to look for it. Its just a lazy man's way out of a mess.Essayons wrote:...Can anyone link me a tried and true sugar recipe?...
Try searching the Tried & True recipe forum for sugar washes...and a hint would be for the Birdwatcher's, the Gerber, Wineo's, or Rad's All Bran recipes, among others.
Make yourself useful instead of a high maintenance newby.
