looking for a reputable place to buy an accurate thermometer, any suggestions

Placement of the therm as well as the intended use is needed to give you a recommendation. All therms are not created equal. Hope this helps, Sir.

I need one to put in mash to watch temp remotely, I recently tried nchooches bourbon and my brand new piece of s**t thermometer was about 45 degrees off and pretty sure was the cause of mash nor working off correctly

Kinda stumped here as you require remote reading. I'd use a good quality cooking BBQ therm such as a Maverick or others

The downside to this or at least the one I use is that the probes are not submersible .
Use the long meat probe instead of the grate probe and only insert it into the mash an nch or so.

those BBQ thermo's have limited range.
I have a long probe (2') compost thermo I use for compost.
think about any thermo in your fermenter with a wifi camera to monitor it'
monitor with your smart phone from any where in the world.
I'd be worried about security though.

How would one stir their mash and insure that there is no scorching remotely...??? Just as with running a still, mashing requires constant attention while heat is being applied... Once the heat has been turned off, not so much...

it is specifically for nchooches bourbon mash while corn is cooling to 150 degrees

My local ace hardware has about 20ish different kitchen thermos on the wall that would all work in some way.
just about all the thermos including the cheap ones are adjustable to set the correct temp, check google for how.

the one I recently used was a piece of crap and was off by a mile and it was not a cheap one either

I have this little fella right here:
I think it has gone up a little in price since I got her. She has the fancy pre-programmed meat settings but I can easily dial in any temp (as an alarm to tell me when I reach temps) I want for mashing (like 200F). I mostly use it during the cool downs when I am waiting for temp drops to add other grains or pitch yeast. FMH is correct though.... DO NOT SUBMERGE THE PROBE.... unless you like either WAY off temps or buying new probes.
