Search function: ignored words
I visit forums of all type for all my hobbies. This forum has , by far, the greast knowledge of its subject. Its wonderful. There are very few ideas, questions that have yet ben covered. If you can think it , then its here in this forum .....somewhere. The search function leaves alot to be desired for. I understand there are some words that appear to often, but you cant even search for a phase if it has an ignored word in it. For example, while searching for ideas on how to build my still, I cam across a pic for a potstill using stainless sanitary fittings. One pic even had a sight-glass. The words stainless, and glass are ignored in the search function. How else can you search for a sight-glass with out the word glass? And how come the word "fitting/fittings" isnt ignored when its used as often? Just trying to figure this out. I would love to search deeper, as I know " read before you ask" is inforced here, and that can be a good thing. If i have missed the tutorial on the search function, please send me in the proper direction and I will start reading. What else can I do? I don't intend to come across as a jerk, just frustrated , and they wont let me drink at work!
Thanks.

Re: Search function: ignored words
I've given up on the search function here, I always Google to do the searching for this site. The bots index it constantly so it's easier to find what you need and pretty fresh all things considered.
Just use your favourite search engine and use the advanced functions to search this particular site for keywords and phrases.
It works
I promise.

And this version does HD only, and is much better than the site's own search function.

Re: Search function: ignored words
The website claims:
Search for keywords:
Place + in front of a word which must be found and - in front of a word which must not be found. Put a list of words separated by | into brackets if only one of the words must be found. Use * as a wildcard for partial matches.
Not true. Placing a minus sign in front of a word does not exclude it. A guy can't use the search function efficiently on this forum site.
Especially for a newbie thereby resulting in evocation of the "rage of the prima donnas"
The great thing about this site is the wealth of info it contains and a lot great people sharing their experience and knowledge, helping others.
Though sometimes its like trying to take a sip from niagara falls

Re: Search function: ignored words
You do understand that it is not the 'website' that does that, but the 3rd party phpBB software that the website uses, and over which this website has very limited control. We know that the inbuilt phpBB search function is not the best, that is why we also recommend you use the HD specific Google search as well. blanikdog, I reported that post but after I did I tried it from a known secure machine and got a response that the hosting account that the link points to has been suspended... There is also an embedded javascript at the bottom of that notification page which also no longer exists...
